How to fabricate a remote-controlled toy plane for beginners?

Start off with an ordinary plane

You can start off by making the plane from ordinary thermocol, polystyrene. The body can be made from 1-inch sheet for the wings and use quarter inch extruded foam for the tail, the kind of which is used for disposable plates etc.

Follow any simple high wing profile design allowing a span of 30 inches and length of 24 inches. You can use an ordinary toy motor and rechargeable telephone batteries. It is better to start with a simple RC set without servos. It is better still to make a free flight model to gain confidence.

By the way, have you tried any readymade kits? If no, try to get a kit, which is cheap and also suitable for beginners. When you build planes that are in a kit form, you will get a hang of building aircrafts. Once you get that, you can decide the wing profiles, etc on you own.

Have you tried to build up Ornithopters?

Ornithopter is an airplane which flies while flapping it wings. I would suggest you to try the balsa model first. Balsa and a few aluminum tubes and of course for the skin try the material that you use for kites, not the ones made of paper but the mylar. All you have to do is to generate enough thrust coupled with lift.

For the tail, make it flexible, one piece but should be such that it can be slightly twisted or turned to a side to generate difference in orientation of the direction in which it is to flow. I work with protruded carbon fiber tubes for making them but they are on the expensive side, unless you can afford it. Carbon fiber is very fragile to work with, especially tubes. For skin of the ornithopter, we generally use mylar up to 12-13 inch sized ones, for bigger models for 20-inch designs, nylon will be a good idea. Look for the design of "Kinkade Park Hawk", it is a good design, and of course "Wing bird", not so good design but it is okay.

Hi, nice hub! I love RC planes, mainly the electric ones, because I don't really like how the gas ones smell. Just, kidding.

Nice hub soni! I like all RC vehicles, but planes have always been favorites. Haven't tried ornithopters thou, so food for thought on that one for me :)

Reading your article brought me back to when I was a kid and made flyers out of Balsa Wood. Great Hub!

Yes Mike for beginners, I would recommend toy planes made out of balsa wood because it is really simple to make them.
