How to make your history into a documentary film

Almost everyone have histories or just simple events that are worth being documented on film for others to watch and learn.

Sometimes a simple homemade movie with your family can lead to a great documentary even though those movies are very personal most of the times.

So is it possible to make your own documentary film?

Yes if you have the means to achieve that (equipment, human resources, ability, interesting subject, etc.) and ways to disseminate your finished work (something very difficult if your are not a well known filmmaker).

Homemade documentary

You are decided to make it on your own!? Then you can find valued tips at Cinematography.com!

  • Cinematography.com

A must visit for documentary filmmakers. Contains extensive information on all matters relating to cameras and film making.

If you are into wildlife documentary I recommend you Wildlife-film.com where you will find extensive information provided for all aspects of wildlife films and filmmakers.

Unfortunately most of us have not everything needed to such a big achievement.

So what can you do to find the right professional to help you out?

Documentary filmmakers tend to focus on certain subjects (politics, wildlife, everyday living, health, technological advances, etc.) in fact some of them will never accept to make a documentary for somebody else (or you probably do not have enough money lol).

Then where can you find a filmmaker willing to make "your" documentary?

First you should look for newly Film school graduate who is more likely inclined to work "for you".

  • DocumentaryFilms.net

This site provides documentary film information and resources to both viewers and filmmakers.

Amazing documentary about Zimbabwe present situation

YouTube!? Yes, why not...

One of the newest and cheaper forms of sharing your documentary films all over the world it is uploading them to Youtube or other movie broadcast site and make as much disclosure possible.

You just need a Digital Video Camera to start shooting the documentary scenes you need and then a good Video Editing Software so you can edit your film and be able to upload it to one of the video sharing sites you will find below.

Creationism Museum Documentary

3 students decided to attend the grand opening of the controversial creationism museum.

reporter: Brian Greivenkamp

Cameramen: Nolan Rutschilling and Brian Koenig

*IMPORTANT*

This video is not meant to take any side. Our intentions were to simply get peoples opinions. We did not try and make a thesis out of this project.

Thanks to BQAFilms @ youtube.com.

OK, now you have no excuses! Start writing your documentary argument and begin filming it.

Good luck!

How NOT to make a documentary.

The "director" of this video (Samantha) stated that they were sober when they made it, which makes it even worst. And the title was "The second worst documentary ever made." - I just would like to know where is the number one... At least she is quite cute and still very young, so she has the time needed to become a great movie maker in future, or not.
