How to prepare the soil for planting your tulip bulbs for spring bloom. The soil should be prepare for Tulips before the bulbs arrive from the mail order company. this is what you do to prepare the soil. First of all you need to pick the site that you want to plant the bulbs. Remove the sod and rototiller the top soil. You want soil that is well drained and you may need to add organic matter. Soil should be of a medium sandy - loam texture is ideal because it provides good aeration and drainage. Tulip bulbs must not be planted in areas that do not drain well, or they will perform poorly or rot.

If soil is a heavy clay, mix it with one-third to one-half organic material such as peat moss, compost,or aged bark. Raised beds also provide very good drainage. Soil pH should be between 6.0 and 7.0. Work soil 12 inches deep; loose soil below the bulb is important for good root development. In corporate three pounds of a complete fertilizer(such as a 5-10-10) per 100 square feet as you are preparing the soil. Recommended planting depths for Tulips are given to the bottom of the bulb. For Tulips you plant them at lease six inches or deeper. Planting can occur from mid-August until the soil freezes.

Here is how you grow Tulips in pots for indoor blooms.

this is what you need to grow Tulips bulbs in pots

First you need some clean pots starting from 6 inch or larger. What you do if you want a 6 inch pot you would use 7 Tulip bulbs and if you want to have a larger pot like a 8 inch pot you would use 9 Tulip bulbs for that size pot. And if you want larger pots like a 10 inch bulb pot you would use between 12 to 15 bulbs in tht size pot. And all the pots must be drain well. Pots are filled up half way and the Tulips bulbs are set in place and carefully cover over with the remaining potting soil. After you are done with the filling of the pots next take a tag label and mark each pot with what kind of Tulips bulbs are in the pot. Mark down the variety and the color of the blooms. Depends on what you want to do with the tulips and the size you want and to how big of a pot you want.
