It is nearing the end of summer and now is the time to think about buying some tulip bulbs. You can buy bulbs at your local garden center or you can order them thought many of the mail order catalogs that come in the mail.

I have giving you a few of many mail order catalogs that sell Tulip bulbs that you can order from to plant in your yard or landscape. After you receive the bulbs this is what you can do to plant your Tulip bulbs.

How to prepare the soil for planting your tulip bulbs for spring bloom.

The soil should be prepare for Tulips before the bulbs arrive from the

mail order company. this is what you do to prepare the soil. First of

all you need to pick the site that you want to plant the bulbs. Remove the sod

and rototiller the top soil. You want soil that is well drained and you may need to add organic matter. Soil should be of a medium sandy - loam texture is ideal because it provides good aeration and drainage. Tulip bulbs must not be planted in areas that do not drain well, or they will perform poorly or rot.

If soil is a heavy clay,mix it with one-third to one-half organic material such as peat moss,compost,or aged bark. Raised beds also provide very good drainage. Soil pH should be between 6.0 and 7.0. Work soil 12 inches deep;

loose soil below the bulb is important for good root development. In corporate three pounds of a complete fertilizer(such as a 5-10-10) per 100 square feet as you are preparing the soil. Recommended planting depths for Tulips are given to the bottom of the bulb. For Tulips you plant them at lease six inches or deeper. Planting can occur from mid-August until the soil freezes.
