It is human rights day today. But as far as my mind goes, I don't see human rights being guarded. Everywhere there is deprivation, bloodshed, violence and human rights abuses. Are we living in an uncivilized world? Well, the answer is NO. For namesake, we are very much living in a civilized world of uncivilized people.

It was 10 December 1948 when the UN General Assembly adopted the human rights declaration for safeguarding individual rights of humans.

Every nation has its own national human rights team that looks after the rights of the people. However, in today's scenario, when terrorism is holding its sway in major parts of the world, it is difficult to stop human rights abuses. For example, the terrorists subjected the the hostages at the Nariman House in Mumbai to severe torture -- a grave instance of human rights violation. Then, the atrocities and brutalities committed by militants or Taliban and Al-Qaeda activists in Afghanistan is known to everyone. The brutal killing of the US journalist, Daniel Pearl, is one such gory incident of human rights abuses. 

Even the operations that the army or military of a nation conducts sometimes has its casualities.  Then, the human rights violations come to the fore.

There has been a hue and cry over human rights violations in Sri Lanka, Congo,  Kashmir, Pakistan, Guantanamo Bay, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.
