I Am Not Strong Today

It’s my role, my life’s lot
I’m not disgruntled
I wish not to be a martyr
But rather
A smoother of feathers
Calmer of waters
Catcher of fallers
I will adjust my schedule to see you smile
Stow my joy for another day
Invite yours out to play
Retell the story to make you look better
Listen to you for hours vent
Bump your hip with mine to make you grin
I’ll shine my light and love on you
Watch your fears melt away
Hold your hand and heart
Sit with you and pray
I’ll kiss the owies with magical lips
Rock you till the tears are gone
Lend you my courage
Advise you if I can
Then smile big until it soaks into your face
But who will hold me when I am down
Wipe the hair from my eyes and lift my chin
Tell me tales, find my grin
Perhaps my champion is me
By healing them, I heal myself
I’ve found catharsis in my pen
Someone’s calling, I’ve gotta run
They’re feeling low, they need a friend
