I'm on Google Street View
71Google Streetview
A couple of weeks ago there was a strange car driving around the town where I live.
Well to be honest the car wasn't strange in itself just the run of the mill car that you see every day on the roads. but it is what was on the car that made it strange.
The car was a blue saloon with a roof rack and on the roof rack was a pole sticking up, at the top of the pole was what looked like a black box, the car was drivng around quite slowly around every single street and avenue in the town.
Google Streetview
The car had a logo on both the drivers and passenger doors "Google" the black box on top of the car was a camera and the camera was taking pictures for Google Earth.
The pictures though are different from any pictures that you can take with a normal camera because these pictures give you a full 360 degrees view, this means that you get to see the wole picture from the front view to the rear view including the right and left side views. you can turn the pictures using your mouse in any direction that you please.
My Street on Google Earth
Street View
Although the Google car was around my town the pictures have not been added to Google Earth just yet and my street as you can see, in the picture on the right, can only be seen via the older ariel view.
I look forward to when Google do add my street to Google earth and I hope to see myself there even if they blur out my face to protect my Privacy.
I am sure that I will be in the picture simply because I saw the car and with all of the technology in the car I am positive that if I saw the car then it must have seen me too.
When Google Earth does update our town I will post the updated picture here even if I didn't make it into the picture.

Yes, I am-- My daughter-in-law found me. I'm coming back from my mailbox, and it had to be a couple of years ago, summertime that the scenes were shot. I don't remember the car, but I did look at it.
Cool guys I hope that I make it too lol.....jimmy
Amazing Jimmy. I guess I'll have to look around the house for my old Lone Ranger mask so Google won't recognize me when their camera car comes along. I've pretty much given up on any possibility of maintaining my privacy, but this is the end... definitely the end.
Hi William, there are a lot of people out there who agree that Streetview is an invasion of privacy and in some way i do agree but they do blur out faces.
I had a great time playing with Google Earth last month. I found my grandmother's street and I could look up at her old flat and retrace the steps that I took the year I lived there. I even found my old school. I didn't see any people though :)
Nice info Hub. I'll be on the watch for the car AND people in the images, including you now, JimmytheJock...
Thanks Cathy, I hope to see you on there too.....jimmy
JTJ, glad that you asked if we've seen the google car. As a mattter of fact, I was just talking about google earth shots with a client. He sees his truck with him in it on google earth and wonders when it was taken.
I said to him that there was no way google could send that many people out on the road to take photos and came to a sudden conclusion that those shots were zoomed by satellite.
Thanks for clearing up google daytime discussions for me. I will have to let the client know that you saw the google car.
My best friend is dragging a cart across West 114th Street in NYC on Google Street View. It was the coolest thing.
Glad to help newsworthy, even if it was by a coincidence lol.....jimmy
keep in mind there is a difference between Google Earth and Google Maps-- I don't know if Earth has street views that you can travel-- but maps does.
I find it incredibly helpful when going to an unfamiliar place, to get a visual of the neighborhood streets-- so I can recognize the business or building I am looking for.
The personal privacy thing is a little freaky.. I guess Big Brother is here-- almost. It is not in real time...yet.
It's not in real time for us, but you can bet it's in real time for Google -- and for the military and, soon if not now, for law enforcement.
I really like Google earth, I can't see any harm in it personally although I understand that some people may see it as an intrusion especially if they end up on the Internet.
Thanks for commenting guys, some claim that street view is a great tool for terrorists what do you think?.....jimmy
I know a family and the dog who are all in their driveway on google earth, pretty cool!
I am outside doing some yard work in my google street view. 3 of my other family members are outside in the picture with me...its kinda wild!
Great view. I cannot see my house yet :(
i acually wrecked into a google car one time a while back. The car looked similar to the one in the photo. I was going around a curve to fast in my camaro and the google car was parked in the road and i slammed into the back of it. Luckly no body was hurt tho, except my beloved camaro and the weird google car.
I think, you felt very excited when you saw those pictures in Google street view. Its a different feeling.
Streetview is ace!
Was looking for a new home and its amazing how you can go to the location virtually and check out the street and house(the outside) before I did that physically. It's a good thingfor that reason.
Hi jimmy, I just wrote this and then signed in and now have to do again. Oh well Here goes again.
I knew they were doing this ages ago but I am not sure it is right. What if an ex wanted to follow and see what I was up to.(no ex still married) Just and idea. Or a stalker could watch everything that a person was doing.
Shouldnt that be illegal. I know my daughter googled our house once and saw that my son was having a party at our place while we were away. What about the privacy act
