It Came From the 80s: Aliens Pulse Rifle
"I wanna introduce you to a personal friend of mine. This is an M41A
pulse rifle. Ten millimeter with over-and-under thirty millimeter pump
action grenade launcher." -- Hicks
In the sci-fi world, there are
many easily recognizable artifacts. But not too many will cause awe
more than the Aliens Pulse Rifle.
It has been over 20 years since the release of the movie and the M41A Pulse Rifle still looks awesome. It's powerful. In the proper hands, like Ripley's, it'll wreak havoc across the universe. Perhaps that's why it's the standard issue for the Colonial Marines.
The M41A Pulse Rifle is enjoying a cult status among sci-fi fans. There's a
whole backdrop to this fictional weapon. According to the AVP Wiki, the Aliens Pulse Rifle has the following specs:
- Air cooled and gas-operated
- Electronic-pulse firing mechanism
- Primary
ammunition uses 10x24 mm caseless cartridge (holds 99 rounds)
- 30mm pump-action grenade launcher (holds 4 grenades)
- LED ammo counter
- Powered by a lithium battery (located in handle)
- Made
from lightweight alloys and plastic
The Pulse Rifle gets its name from the firing mechanism. Instead of a firing pin, ammos are fired with electronic pulses. This setup mitigates moving parts so that Colonial Marines have better control when firing.
