Jaguar XKE: One Sexy Car
Often called one of the sexiest cars in existence, the Jaguar XKE (sometimes also called the E-Type) is a masterpiece. With well under 100,000 manufactured, the XKE is also quite rare. If you're looking for a Jaguar XKE for sale, skip the next section and go to "Where Can I Find A Jaguar JKE for sale" below. Or if you just want to learn about the Jaguar XKE, read on!
Jaguar XKE: A Brief History
Production of the Jaguar XKE began in 1961 and continued until 1974. During this time, the Series 1, Series 2 and Series 3 versions were created and of course there were some variations within each series (coupe, convertible, roadster, lightweight and a few others).
Inspiration for the car was found in Jaguar's D-Type, a similar Jaguar with a very successful racing history. The D-Type's racing history was so successful, in fact, that the Queen of England actually sent her personal congratulations to Jaguar when the D-Type won several major races in a row ("Le Mans" winners in 1955, 56 and 57).

Tips Before You Buy A Jaguar XKE
Before running out and buying yourself a brand new Jaguar E-Type, you should definitely do some research. If you keep the below tips in mind then you'll be off to a great start when looking to buy your new Jaguar.
- Be wary of RUST (Nothing ruins a fine antique car more than rust).
- Verify authenticity of the car (Is it a true original or a fake? With some basic training in this area you should be able to sniff out a fake a mile away).
- Originality of parts (This is more of a personal preference, but keep it in mind. Over the decades many car parts could have been replaced with non-authentic Jaguar car parts).
- General car problems (Make sure the car does what the seller claims it can do! If the description says "car runs smoothly" but it spews black smoke out the tailpipe and has to crank for 10 seconds before starting properly, you should probably look elsewhere.)

Wish I had one...
My dad's actually got this Porsche 914.6 in his garage: http://images.forum-auto.com/mesimages/503366/1972
Maybe I should write a hub on that car as well? hmm.
Now if only I were rich enough ... ;)
This was the first car I ever bought with my own money. I loved it but sold it to buy a house :(
They are awesome as long as you don't try going ropund a corner.
Wow, so you could have written a better article on it than I! Dare I ask how much you got for it whenever you sold it?
I want to buy one of these soon...my current car, a 1984 econovan, doesn't help my street cred...nobody is scared of a pimp in van anymore.
Unless you have a potato gun mounted on the top.
At least that's what I've found.
I want one!
They're really not *that* expensive compared to a new Ferarri or Bentley ;)
I'm with Mark knowles on this one.
E types handle like a block of apartments on wheels! But I love them too. Art on wheels. Driving an E type Jaguar is a real joy. The motor has so much low down power, that if you are a skilled driver the car can take off in top gear. They are very expensive in Australia, especially the later models which could be driven a bit quicker than the earlier models without falling off the road. The 3.5 litre Mk five was also a lovely car to drive.
A pristine E type was sold here about two years ago for AU$100,00
hey, i must say, its a great hub. WORTH Spending Time Upon...i read through the entire post. great work. a lot of research done on it.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting earnestshub and auto expert.
earnest- I have to admit, the jaguar xke engine sound is probably one of the most beautiful antique car sounds you can get...so it's lack of handling gets a free pass from me as long as I can hear that engine purr.
