Jamaican Hallelujah One Love
The following was written by me about two years ago and performed with my son at church one Sabbath afternoon; more or less as an amateur piece, all in good holy fun. I am neither a singer nor a musician so on that occasion I simply fingered some chords in the key of C and prayed that it was going along with the general pitch of his voice, as we had rehearsed at home. The things we put our children through.
I would love to see a composer actually put the melody to it that I hear in my head when I try to play it. Picture a Jamaican gospel song with a hint of mento, meaning a moderate syncopation, keep it reverent. Let it reflect joy yet with some sense of control.
