Life On The Road - Visiting Karijini National Park
On the road again
Have you ever wanted to sit at the bottom of a waterfall with the water cascading over you?Do you love visiting National Parks and exploring gorges, waterfalls and more ?
Karijini National Park in Western Australia will keep you busy for days if you are a keen bush walker who loves nature so we decided to explore on our way up north !
The Fortescue Falls in Karijini National Park in Western Australia, the 2nd largest National Park in Australia
It is a steep climb down the rocky hill to the falls & even steeper climbing back up but you are rewarded with a pleasant swim at the bottom.
The walk or I should say climb (ideal for goats) is a grade 3 walk and is the most popular in the park ideal for all ages.
There are many other walks to Gorges and waterfalls throughout the park and we took photos of most of them that we visited in our few days stay .
As you can stay in the park for up to 28 days you need to make sure you have a good supply of drinking water to take on your walks and water for washing dishes and yourself etc while there.
I was disappointed not to see much wildlife while there , Neville saw a brown snake near the BBQ but it was gone by the time I arrived .
We didn't see any dingos despite there being warning signs however we had a great time walking , seeing the beautiful gorges, relaxing under the stars at night !
Campsite
Dales Campground
Dales camping ground accessible for caravans and campervans is a great base for exploring the park.
There are spacious camping spots with plenty of toilets, bbq areas available which we made use of while there.
At $7 per person a night it is reasonably priced camping. You cannot book in advance however in May we had no problems as many of the 140 campsites were empty , during the busy season once the park is full you are directed to the overflow by the Visitor centre where you stay until a spot comes vacant for you .
Stocking up at Newman
We had a few days in Newman due to our radiator problem so while there we stocked up with the essentuals -- Water- meat - fresh fruit & vegies & wine etc .
Newman was an interesting place to visit & we enjoyed a BBQ at the top of Radio Hill overlooking Newman at night !
Everyone was friendly as well as helpful there which made our stay easier.
The Newman caravan park was pleasant & I even had a swim in the pool while there !
