Magic Card Tricks For Kids
60
Kids Love Magic
It's as simple as that. The first time they see a trick they can't explain they want to see it again and again.
Magic forms a core component of the imagination of a child - the success of the Harry Potter books is the perfect example. They love the freedom and power magic enables in their make believe world.
Sooner or later, they will want to try a little magic themselves.
Magic - Where to Start
Card tricks are considered classical magic and are a common starting point for beginners. They range from simple mathematical tricks to sleight of hand requiring a high level of skill and years of practice.
The key things for kids when learning magic is to have step by step instructions and an achievable trick. From this starting point, gradually more difficult tricks can be attempted.
If you are after a specific trick or magic product, visit the website of Ellusionist, one of the more comprehensive magic supply retailers.
The other option, and a great gift for any child showing an interest in magic, is a beginners magic set. Most come with a selection of card tricks and other simple prop related illusions. Before you know it you will be treated to a complete magic show in the comfort of your own home.

- CIA Secrets Revealed as Magic
Those Clever, Sneaky Magicians Magician John Mulholland was hired by the CIA in 1953 to adapt the secrets of magic to the work of CIA agents. Special signals, hidden messages, secret compartments and more - the working tools of magicians - are now revealed in a new book, "The Official C.I.A. Manual of Trickery and Deception." It's explained in a fascinating article in the Los Angeles Times. I particularly like this slideshow, courtesy of the Boston Globe, which depicts the magic methods suggested to CIA agents. - "Is Anybody There?" Now on DVD
Just released on DVD is John Crowley's "Is Anybody There," a film starring Michael Caine that is about an aging magician. When I reviewed the film earlier in the year, I was looking forward to a film that was about a friendship based on magic. I wasn't disappointed, but also wasn't overwhelmed. My models for a film that depicts friendships built around an interest include: Thomas McCarthy's excellent "The Station Agent," which featured a character who was a train aficionado; and his "The Visitor," which was about drumming. I'm still waiting for a film that depicts the strong friendships that can arise from magic, as shown in Leslie Danoff's excellent documentary, Saturday at Reuben's. Read my review. - Mark Wilson Magic University Launches
According to a recent release, American illusionist and television star Mark Wilson has launched his "Mark Wilson Magic University." The new site provides online magic instruction that is based on his best selling magic book, "The Mark Wilson Complete Course in Magic." The Mark Wilson Magic University is not only designed to be a magic instruction site that is open to everyone, but to also support a magic community. Special promotion deals are being offered for the 2009 holiday season and students may participate in the community for free. "I believe that instruction from the Magic University will revolutionize the teaching of magic, making it more accessible for everyone," says Mark Wilson in the release. "I also know that protecting magic secrets is much harder on the Internet, because with accessibility comes the danger of wider exposure. That's why I founded the Magic University, to provide top quality magic instruction to those who are sincerely interested in learning our art and who promise not to reveal its closely guarded secrets."
