Malti-Poo Hybrid Dogs (Malt-A-Poo, Maltipoo Dogs)
79Physical Description
The Malti-Poo, as with many of the hybrid dog types with Poodles in the cross, can be several different sizes depending on the type of Poodle. The Malt-A-Poo is most often a cross between either a Toy or a Miniature Poodle, however second generation crosses with Teacup Poodles are also in demand. These second generation hybrid dogs are smaller than the original cross.
The Maltipoo dog hybrid is usually under ten pounds and between six to eight inches at the shoulder when fully mature. They typically have a medium to long coat, straighter than the Poodle but a curlier coat than the long, straight and flowing hair of the Maltese. Colors can be any color seen in the Poodle breed including apricot, white, gray, black, sable and chocolate colors, often with white markings.
Maltipoo Dog
The head of the MaltiPoo dog is very elegant and refined with a tapered muzzle, bright alert dark eyes and turned over yet erect ears. There is a definite stop and the forehead and skull are rounded. The body is athletic and slightly longer than the dog is tall and the legs are well formed and sturdy. The tail is moderately long, slightly curled up and over the back and often is well-fringed.
Maltipoo
Temperament
The Malti-Poo is a very intelligent, loving and playful companion pet. Both parent breeds have long been bred as companions so they have a natural affinity for human companionship and need to with people more than they are on their own. The Maltipoo can become very spoiled and demanding if not properly trained and socialized, so it is very important they not be babied or allowed to run the household.
When trained and socialized, Maltipoo dogs are outstanding travel companions and are highly adaptable to almost any type of living situation. They can do very well in small spaces provided they have several walks per day and are allowed to self-exercise indoors. They can be taught a great number of tricks and delight in making their owner happy.
The Malt-A-Poo is a good companion dog and is not known to be aggressive or problematic with other dogs as long as socialization has been incorporated into the training program. Their small size makes them difficult to housetrain so crate training is recommended. This hybrid dog may not be suitable for households with small children since little children can injure these dogs very easily by mishandling or dropping them.

Grooming And General Care
The MaltiPoo dog will need routine grooming and typically owners choose to clip these dogs to keep their coats manageable. The longer coats will need grooming several times per week but clipped coats are usually kept neat and nice looking with a once a week grooming regime. They may be an ideal hybrid dog for allergy sufferers however it is important to test the person with the individual dog or puppy before making the final decision to bring the dog home.
Both the Poodle and Maltese lines are prone to problems with both eyes and ears, so it is important to have the parents health checked before breeding. In addition both breeds may have difficulty with tooth and dental problems and starting puppies out on a good high quality kibble, avoiding table scraps and starting a good dental hygiene routine at the earliest possible time is important.
