I always felt an affinity with him since he came from my home city.I once heard him speak in person; he came across as very kindly.  A friend who knew him well, ("He was like my second father.") says he spoke in low tones and came across as shy.  Which he may have been and overcame it with his humor.Mel Blanc's talent was truly impressive.

June 29 is officially Mel Blanc Day in Portland, Oregon.
