Types Of Military Backpack

For you to pick a military backpack it may be a good idea to go through the various types first. The list below offers just a few of the popular types available for anyone to buy. I will go into more detail with the more all round military bags.

  • Tactical Packs

  • Hydration Packs

  • Medical Packs

  • Hunting Packs

  • Alice Packs

  • Molle Packs

  • ILBE System Packs

Alice Military Backpack

This bag was pretty much the start of the backpack evolution from standard and uncomfortable to totally versatile. It was used heavily during the Vietnam war and was adapted many times throughout those years.

Nowadays these packs are used by many outdoors enthusiasts such as campers, trekkers, climbers, etc. They have even become popular with the Paintball and Airsoft playing crowd who want to add some authenticity to their games.

Molle Military Backpack

This was designed to replace the Alice bag that had been around for many years.  Molle is an acronym for MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment and was a new development during the Desert Storm conflict. It has a totally different look to the Alice bag with its pockets placed around the pack in a more slime line fashion.

Different pouches and equipment can be stored on and in the pack.  As standard these military backpacks  also incorporate a vest used to carry personal equipment.  This is a great bag for the trekker or the camper who needs the room but also the comfort for long treks.

ILBE Military Backpack

The Improved Load Bearing Equipment military backpack system has been designed and used for the US Marine Corps. It replaced the last two popular military backpack systems the Alice and the Molle. It is one of the newest military packs improving on any of the imperfections the last two packs may have had.

The ILBE military backpack has three different main features being the main pack, a hydration system and an assault pack. The main pack has an area to where you can hook knives or survival items. The hydration system can hold up to 100 ounces of water perfect for those long treks in the hot sun. The assault pack was created to carry all of the ammunition but of course to the civilian can be adapted to carry whatever else is needed. All in all probably the most comfortable and versatile of all the military backpacks.
