Top 5 Action World War II Movies
78If I had a nickel for every World War Two flick out there, I'd be a rich little girl. If I had a nickel for every good WWII flick out there, I'd have a handful of nickels and not much else. Fortunately for y'all, I'm going to list the top five, so you can be assured of quality the next time you want to watch a good war flick.

The Great Escape (2-Disc Collector's Set)
Price: $5.42
List Price: $19.98 |
The Great Escape (1963)
Steve McQueen - that alone should be plenty of reason to watch this! Hubba, hubba, what a man! Ahem. Ok, so anyway, this is a flick based on a true story. A group of Allied prisoners plot to escape a purportedly inescapable POW camp - and if you've read the title, you can probably figure out whether or not they succeed! Also staring James Garner, Richard Attenborough, Charles Bronson. Nominated for an Oscar.

Kelly's Heroes
Price: $4.51
List Price: $14.98 |
Kelly's Heroes (1970)
Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland and more.
Set in France, U.S. soldiers capture a German officer and discover information about a gold shipment. Eastwood comes up with a plan to steal it - he even goes so far as to recruit soldiers from other units. Sutherland is hysterical in this. If you can watch this without running out and buying everything he ever starred in, you're a cold, cold fish!
No Oscars, but a very good film.

A Bridge Too Far (Collector's Edition)
Price: $6.72
List Price: $19.98 |
A Bridge Too Far (1977)
Robert Redford has a very small part in this, and believe it or not, he's the reason I bought it!
Yummy!
The rest of cast is equally impressive, however. James Caan, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Elliot Gould, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Ryan O'Neal, Laurence Olivier. Hello? Do you even need to know what this film is about to make you want to see it? I thought not! However, I will tell you it's about Operation Market Garden - an attempt to end the war via lots of paratroopers and captured bridges.
It has quite a depressing ending, however, so be warned.

The Guns of Navarone (Special Edition)
Price: $9.29
List Price: $19.94 |
The Guns of Navarone (1961)
Gergory Peck, Anthony Quinn, David Niven, Richard Harris. This film was nominated for 7 Oscars and won 1. The Germans have massive guns located on the island of Navarone. The island is impenetrable from air and the guns are keeping 2000 British troops trapped across the way - because their only escape route would take them straight past those guns. The Greeks are supposed to assist in a daring attempt to disarm the Germans, but there are several problems along the way, including a traitor.

The Longest Day (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Price: $12.20
List Price: $19.98 |
The Longest Day (1962)
John Wayne, Sean Connery, Richard Burton. Nominated for 5 Oscars, it won 2. This is about D-Day. It's rather epic and tells the story from all 4 sides: British, U.S, German and French. Most people are at least vaguely familiar with Normandy - if you're not, this is the film for you. Very good cast. Get the popcorn ready and enjoy the films!

Rambo, I'm pretty sure you could rent them from any DVD place? And if not, I think you could buy them from Amazon.com. :)
These are truly great choices, and great movies. The actors all had that natural tough look. Eastwood, McQueen, Wayne, Bronson, and the others probably didn't have to be coached on how to be a tough guy. Great hub. I never heard of a woman who loved war movies, let alone had a top 5. That's great. Keep up the hubs.
Thank you. :))
my Fav's : (1) Saving private Ryan
(2) Band of brothers
(3) Wild talker
(4) The Enermy at gate

I watched the first four movies but only a portion of the last one, will check it out. They are great movies, they should take more movies like it now. The new movies have no story line except for a few.
