My Child ID from AMBER alert
I am a parent, and nothing gives me greater fear than the idea of losing a child. I have only one incident where I did not know where my daughter was, and I feared the worst. Of course, it turned out that she was at a friend’s house nearby.
Sure, there is not a single parent who has not had my momentary panic attack over the location of their child, and we can’t help but feel sorry for those cases in which the missing child is never found.
For example, the Amber Hagerman case in Arlington, Texas. The child abduction and murder case happened over ten years ago, and it has since received a commemorative day known as National AMBER Alert Awareness day on January 13.
A site known as amber alert has come out with a device that can easily reduce the number of missing children known as My Child ID. The purpose of the device is to give parents “Peace of Mind”.
The My Child ID is a portable device that looks like an elephant, with a tiny screen. Out of its trunk is a tiny USB cable that is designed for plugging right into the computer. From there, it is a matter of the parent typing in their information about themselves and their children. This information would be important medical information such as medications, allergies, physicians, as well as contact information. The parent can even put in pictures, so the device can become a digital slideshow of information.
This My Child ID saves a lot of time if a lost child is recovered with it. Since the My Child ID is a very small size, it is perfect for to clip on to a child’s coat or backpack. If a lost child is found, all the recovery team has to do is stick it in a computer USB port, and all the child’s information is in one place. The My Child ID is compatible with Microsoft, Mac, and Linux operating systems.
For those who want to protect their children a little more, than I highly recommend going over to the Amber Alert site and purchasing it for about $39.99. It makes a good gift for friends, especially those that are having baby showers.
Personally, I think it would be good if every child in the country had one of these, and could wear it at all times. I have no idea how much of a “pipe dream” that is, but I think we all want less missing and abducted children here in this nation.
