My Experience with Supernaturals,

Updated on August 7, 2008

What I saw as a 3 year old

Many years ago , when I was around 3 years old, I had an interesting experience.

I was able to backtrack my age by asking my late parents questions about when we moved out of the house In Campbell street in Georgina. Georgina is a suburb of Roodepoort a town just west of Johannesburg.

My brother was born in that house. He was born at home. When I saw my baby brother, my mother said I burst into tears and said "I dont want a brother, I want a sister, even if she is Black!

But enough of the background. Our house, which was newly built, was on top of a knoll or a small hill (or Koppie as it is called in South Africa). According to local legend this hill was a tribal burial ground for the local indigenous population. However, this did not deter the land developers and building of new houses simply went ahead.

One evening my parents and I went to visit with friends in some nearby houses. It was walking distance as there were not too many cars about in the 1950's in that part of the world. Travel was primarily by suburban train and by tram in Johannesburg at that period of time.

Once the visit was over we walked back home. As a tired little three year old, I was perched on my dad's neck riding horsey style with my hands clutching his forehead while he supported me by holding my feet with his hands, somewhat like stirrups.

As we approached the house,I saw saw, what to me, looked like a blue neon outline of an indian brave. Next to him was what appeared to be a reddish orange neon outline of a "cowboy". These characters were leaning on our back fence. However if one notes that the fence was some 1.8m (or 6 foot) high, these figures were extremely large. I called to out my dad and said "look at the cowboy and Indian on the fence" My dad made no comment.

We went into the house. According to my dad the whole house smelled of cigar smoke and my bedroom door which was latched opened and closed itself. The latch remaining intact.

We left the house immediately and went back to the friends where we slept for the night. Shortly after that we sold up and left the house for good.

About 40 or so years later, I tried to find the house , bearing in mind that I was 3 years old when I was last there. By a miracle I found the house. I knocked at the door hoping to meet the current occupants. No one was at home. However a passerby told me that that the current owners wre moving out. According to him, this was just one of many owners occupants to move out after a brief stay.

The passer by said "That house is haunted you know"!
