My life in a box
Thoughts on moving house
The movers have gone.
I sit on the floor and survey the chaos left behind.
Papers, dust, cobwebs and crap.
Stuff I no longer need.
After the stress of the past weeks i should feel relief.
Instead I feel sadness and despair.
My life here is over, this adventure is done.
Friends will become distant, someone you once knew.
A fresh start I hear you say.
Dust bunnies, hayfever and sweat.
You first have to unpack on the other side.
I watched them load my life into a truck.
Six weeks on an ocean.
Anything can happen.
Hurricanes, whales and Somali pirates.
I said goodbye to my life as I know it.
Sitting on the floor I survey the damages.
Remnants of a life I once had.
Scrabble, a painting, a bag of books.
Forgotten in the mad rush to pack.
I watched them load my life onto the back of a truck.
Sadness, grief and angst.
My life is in a box.
