Stop the Pain

I just got over a tooth ache. It woke me up in the middle of the night and I could not sleep. I struggled to remember what my mom did for me when I was a kid and had a tooth ache.

While I was trying to remember, I tried icing the area. That did not work too well.  It made my face cold but my tooth was still throbbing. Then I vaguely remembered, the first thing she always did was put on some raw garlic. No matter the problem, tooth ache, ear ache whatever the problem, the cure was garlic. That actually helped calm down the pain so it did not throb.

Then I remembered what it was she used to do. We'd swish around a mixture of whiskey and honey and swallow. I tried it and I did feel better though the taste of garlic, whiskey and honey was quite an experience.

While this by no means is meant to cure tooth decay, it did stop the tooth ache. If you have decay as the cause of your tooth ache, you will need to see the dentist to get it cleaned out and filled. In the mean time, try the raw garlic and failing that the whiskey and honey should do the trick until you can see your dentist.

Thank you again Tom. I knew about the whiskey but not the garlic. Here is another remedy from my vocal teacher. If you have a sore throat being a vocalist you know I need to know this: Gargle with baking soda and water. "IMPORTANT!!!!!" "PLEASE STIR AND DILUTE THE BAKING SODA BEFORE YOU GARGLE WITH IT!!!!!" Also, eat some toast! Ice cream will soothe it too. But of course as always see your doctor.
