Natural Pain Remedies That Work
73
The experience of pain is one that most people avoid, at all costs. Understandably so, as it can create problems and barriers in all areas of life.
The focus of traditional medicine while preventative in some aspects, is largely one of symptom control. The importance of relieving symptoms comes into play when a person is in excruciating pain. When people start to look beyond the symptom and find a cause, it may appear that symptom control is really all they can do or what they "should" do to alleviate their pain.
Additional answers for pain control are available and to utilize them one must be open to new ideas. However, the gain in doing this can bring positive enhancements to life in a way only previously imagined.

EFT for Pain
In the Short Term
In an effort to provide immediate relief, there are some natural remedies that can work very well.
- Arnica Commonly used in topical form, this plant provides anti-inflammatory benefits. Atheletes and others who desire a natural, effective remedy use arnica for sprains, bruises, swelling, trauma, and bites. It may be used orally in diluted homeopathic form.
- EFT In addition to the human body we look at in the mirror, we are also made up of energy. Actually, there is no separation, but many do not consciously think about their energetic make up. Regardlesss, it exists and EFT releases blocks in energetic pathways, alleviating pain from a multitude of causes and disorders. The possiblities are endless for this particular modality.
- Water The human body is comprised of at least 60% water. To assist the body in healing and relief from pain, drinking to quench and prevent thirst is one way to support the body.
- Heat Take a sock and fill it with uncooked rice. Microwave 3 minutes or stick in a warm oven for 10 (just watch so it doesn't catch on fire). As noted in the comments below, heat can work wonders for body aches and pain.
- Rest Often thought of as restorative, the power of rest can bring much needed respite from pain. Whatever needs to be done can wait. The body needs and deserves time to heal.
In the Long Term
The cause and relief of any distress in life are actually one in the same. To elaborate, we create our experience of life and it begins with our thoughts.
At the root, all humans are good, loving, and worth while. It is our deviation from this knowing that ultimately "causes" us to experience life in any way other than that. On the same note, there is no fault or blame in this equation (go ahead, dump them aside right now, just pretend they do not exist). Once one starts to realize the truth in this way of thinking, the power is harnessed to make life into what is really desired. Again, it starts with thoughts, and it can start right now.
One may begin by simply finding ways to appreciate one's self. In any way possible. Additionally, it can be helpful to reframe negative thoughts and reach for thoughts that feel better. The better one feels, the more positive life experience he or she has.
Will realizing the power of dissolving negative beliefs and thinking positively prevent accidents and pain from happening in the first place? The power of the human mind is often under estimated. May experience be the greatest teacher.

Hi Funride :o) It's a different way of looking at things, I admit. And most people think it's a little nutty, but there again - is a thought :o)
EFT works wonders and has a really high success rate. I think it is likely one of the most thought provoking and proven methods of curative relief when it comes to ailments because it integrates all components of humanity and simply, yet effectively eliminates whatever is ailing. It's worth a try and there are a bunch of free resources available to get started. I know it's not a pill, but it does work... you might be surprised :o)
Hi Funride,
I am going to go with RainbowRecognizer on this one. I think if you try EFT and stick with it for a few days you'll be amazed. What's better then natural drugs? No drugs at all.
Another resource for EFT is www.emofree.com. That is Gary Craig's website. He is pretty much the grandfather of EFT. You can find a ton of info there.
Blessings~
Lisa
Thank you both, now that I have deal with my natural skepticism LOL I´m going to read the EFT Manual and try it on my wrists. Who knows I might have more issues beside my wrists that can be cured with the help of EFT ;)
Thanks, Lisa & Funride! There are endless EFT resources, I will list some :o) Enjoy!
It is so hard to decide what is best for pain. There are different types of pain. And what works for some definitely does not work for others.
I swear by the chiropracters, for my migraines. Then again heat bags help for other pain. People have different pain levels. My husband can stand a lot of pain, yet another person can have a twinge and are devastated. I think we have to learn to deal with pain more, to survive in this world.
I think we all suffer, one way or another from pain, especially as we get older. But we need to push these feelings aside a bit, and live each day as it comes. Pain is part of life. Try to cope and you will become stronger in the end.
I used to believe that pain had to be part of life. I think it is part of life, but it does not have to be in great form. However, I do agree that learning how to be with pain and seek comfort is part of the process. The way I have done that is to realize the source of pain. For me, pain is a signal and a gift.
There are many modalities out there to assist and that makes this world great - many options for many people! Thank you for commenting ~ I'll add heat to the list now :o)
THANX FOR THIS VERY USEFUL HUB
very useful and informative hub.
Funride, aren't your wrists an injury from some time ago? Seems like I read that somewhere here on HubPages. Nevertheless, my point is, there may be actual physical reasons that your wrists hurt, or still hurt.
If they "should be" all healed by now but are giving you pain, did you have them x-rayed to be sure they are healing/healed correctly? or you might try some of the bone healing type natural remedies, herbs and homeopathics, or particular vitamins and minerals that your body may be in low supply of, that are good for healing bones and the components of the joints. or some kind of physical therapy...or any combination of all the above (think wholisticly)! as well as the techniques that others have offered here.
Pain is always an indication that "this needs attention" in some way, shape or form and is not to be ignored or "killed" just to feel better. Think wholisticly (spiritual, mental, emotional and physical)cover as many "bases" of being as possible to determine what you need. Do you know what I mean?
How about Itch--as a pain. I just got a bit of poison ivy on my arms and this heat really gets them to itching. I have gobs of Calamine Lotion on them but it isn't working!!
This hub is written from the perspective that our thoughts play largely into our experience. EFT is recommended for anything: including itchy rashes. :o)
Exactly what is EFT? Is it like Bio-feedback?
From Gary Craig's site: "Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an emotional, needle free version of acupuncture that is based on new discoveries regarding the connection between your body's subtle energies, your emotions, and your health. It has been reported successful in thousands of cases and it applies to a huge range of emotional, health and performance issues. It often works where nothing else will."
It is simple tapping on verified energetic points on the body while making statements to yourself. It might feel silly, yet so can just about anything not tried before :o) You can watch an introductory video here to see how it works:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i33V2EcVlY
Magnus, of http://www.tapping.com also has a self-acceptance video that's really nice:

I realize that many feel this isn't relating completely to the issue at hand, but I feel quite the opposite. It is my opinion that I would be selling readers short if I did not include the focus on the power of our thoughts and emotions.
I've tried *many* traditional therapies, and while helpful in some ways, I have experienced lasting changes, improvements, and shifts since I have fully come to realize the power of my thoughts and feelings. I am sharing that truth with others. Take what works and feel free to leave the rest :o)
Good-to-know info, Rainbow. I was looking for a photo of arnica, but none was to be had, even at the link site. But, I found one: A daisy-type flower.
Thank you for all those links and the information. Color Therapy works in a similar way.
Yes, there are many modalities available ~ whatever works! :o)
The tip on the heating up uncooked rice in a sock is a new one. I'm definitely one who uses EFT for my occasional aches and pains but I'll try this sometime too.

Thanks for answering my request ;)
You´re right, nice thoughts can do wonders against pain but they don´t really "kill" the pain though.
