Anyone who has read any of my comments on HubPages would conclude that I am a skeptic, sometimes to the extreme.  I am still a skeptic and will probably always be a skeptic, but I wanted to publish the following poem about some events, that were coincidental, but that some would view as paranormal.  This poem, is based on actual real events:

THE PURCHASE

Thirteen, thirteen, the cashier said.

I paid her while, I shook my head.

My first response ,buy one more item.

Lest ole back luck will be invited.

She looked at me as if to say,

that must’ve ruined your bloody day.

Pretending it didn’t bother me,

I left the market, oh, so quickly.

I walked outside, mounted my horses,

soon forgetting  ‘bout dark forces

The drive back home was so serene.

T’was no more thought of number thirteen.

Into my yard, I drove upon

three jet-black cats perched on the lawn.

One in the middle, one on each side,

They glared at me, with golden eyes.

They sat there looking so seriously,

as if they’d been waiting, waiting for me.

Not knowing that this was a curse,

and forgetting, that day was October, thirty-first.

When I unmounted, stepped on the lawn,

They all scattered. All were just gone.

Later that night, I heard the sounds.

They’d made their home under my house.

On some nights, I hear them playing.

I leave them food , but never see 'em.

I worry much  ‘bout their well-being.

Hope that they’re dry, that they’re not freezing.

You see, that day, that Halloween,

I purchased three souls for thirteen thirteen.

END
