Obama – now we believe America
We, from the rest of the world, will now take America seriously when it says it is the land of equal opportunity. Obama has won, and is living proof that the dream of Martin Luther King is realized. His victory shows that the minority can have a majority!
Barack Obama, the 44th president is a symbol of possibility, opportunity and hope realized.
In India, we had a caste system, which is not unlike racism. Our forward castes were generally fair-skinned and the lower ones dark. Our women were oppressed by the chauvinist types, but we have had a woman prime minister and many women ministers. We now have the first woman president of India in office. We have had people from the lower castes in all seats of power.
We have always wondered why the US, with its talk of equality, never had a woman for president or one who was not white-skinned.
Today America has given an answer, and we join our American brothers and sisters in celebration. One day you will have a woman for president, possibly an African-american woman for president, and we believe you.
Now let us celebrate!

We share your concerns here in Canada Lissie. We have talked a lot about not just whether Obama will be elected but whether he will be given the opportunity to serve out his term. I certainly hope so!
Lissie- Obama won by a landslide (twice that of McCain). Btw even presidential designates have the security cover which is top notch so don't worry.
LOL Kenny, I am afraid it's a bit too early to celebrate. Not that that I am having anything against Obama personally, I just think America has tough time ahead regardless, and whoever the president is, he don't have much room for maneuver...
But yeah, Obama definitely looks safer for countries outside US :)

It's refreshing to get the international perspective from intelligent hubbers. Your comments are exactly what we here in America were hoping for. We have hated what Bush et al did to our image in the world. We are ashamed. But no more.
Agree -- Obama has an uphill battle. He has been saddled with a giant morass.
And yes, we cannot be too complacent about this victory. America has a sad legacy of losing its best and brightest leaders in the prime of their lives. There have already been threats on Obama. And again -- I doubt the threat against him will come from outside the country. Sick as that is... We are a divided, divisive country.
I am thrilled to be alive for this historic election. I am proud to be an American. As for Obama's safety, I am sending out positive thoughts that he will live to a healthy and hearty ripe age of 90.

I voted for Obama, not because he's black, not because he's not a Republican, not because it'd make Mark/Misha/etc wrinkle their noses and wonder, but because he has not cracked under the limelight, because he presents a POSITIVE movement for our country, because he appears to, in all things, genuinely wish to connect with and improve conditions for everyone from the bottom up.

Yes its true, America has proved it, but i wish they uphold same support through, because as Misha said, "America has tough time ahead regardless, and whoever the president is, he don't have much room for maneuver..." its only the same support extended can see him go through and our hopes. He must be aware, of course. Your combination of scepticism and hope, that kind of mixed feelings is what most feel. We have to wait and see, but let's wait with that hope. Looks like he will do his best. And anyway, the president is not a single man, he is an organisation.

I'm coming late to this party, but I too am glad to hear the election of Obama has raised America's standing in the world. After the 8-year nightmare of that pitiful excuse for a president named Bush, Barack Obama is a much-needed breath of fresh air! A president who can speak in grammatically correct sentences that actually mean something and who *really* cares about this once-great country will be such a delight! Never mind the messages he'll be delivering won't always be good news. It's enough that there's finally a light at the end of the tunnel that isn't another freight train! Even better that this "light" is a "skinny half-black kid" raised by a white grandmother to be a Citizen of the World. As we all should be.

Personally I liked Edwards, he was out by the time we got primaries. I went HIllary over Obama based on experience level. However since he was our dem candidate and anything beats continued Bush policies, I was for Obama in the presidential. I think, as you said it did for you, that it restored a lot of faith in the united states across the world. He's doing ok so far. I'm not one of those 'obama is the messiah' people, but he is smart, charming and rather delightfully arrogant. I like to think he has good intent and the charisma to pull off his plans through Congress although the majority dem congress rather assures that too. So yay! I'll celebrate with you.
