Ogden Nash and me

Crisp funny poem:

The cow is of the bovine ilk;

one end is moo, the other milk.

Another one:

The trouble with a kitten is that

when it grows up, it's always a cat.

Both by the master of light verse: Ogden Nash

Always loved Ogden Nash's crazy poetry. He looks at things from an unexpected angle and strings together unexpected words. The following are my attempts in tribute to him.

Flea at Long Neck

A giraffe was visited by a touring flea,

Who climbed her neck for eternity,

He finally, finally, reached her head,

And signed the postcard in giraffe blood.

Milk Teeth

Behind every successful bull-elephant,

Stands an unknown female elephant,

The source of the strength of his massive ivories

Is the calcium in the milk of Mummy’s mammaries.

He has a point!

The pen’s mightier than the sword,

But not when you meet a porcupine,

‘Cos he doesn’t possess writing skills,

But dangerous close-quarters fighting quills.

Male Chauvinist Pigs?

Dear feminists, don’t you see,

That the swine is not a MCP?

With adoring oinks and kisses,

He shows his respect for the missus.

Party Readymades

Antarctic parties do require,

A formal dinner attire,

But penguins have the advantage,

Of using natural plumage.

Loved your tribute to Ogden Nash!

The title of your article caught my eye since I'm also a major Ogden Nash fan and wrote my own "Ode a la Ogden." (Pardon me for using your forum...but I can't NOT post it) :)

I sat inside my solitude

I did not scream or shout

Til some one pushed the door ajar

And asked me to come out

And play

So this we did

Adventures then were shared

And when no one was looking

My friend and I then dared

To Love

And this we did

With a passion unrestrained

And why the things we did were done

I doubt could be explained

To You

And so I Won't.
