Only Shortlisted Applicants will be contacted

The vacancy advertisement says "Only Shortlisted Applicants will be contacted."

Why?

Why?

The chances are close to 100% that the letter and CV that you laboured and sweated over for a week or more were submitted by email. They have your email address!

Technology is such that today that slipping your email address into a database could be automated or input would take only seconds. A couple of hours at the most to input the single line email addresses of a thousand applicants.

It would be effortless and almost cost free to send out a letter to the 'other' candidates saying "sorry you were not shortlisted at this time."

Polite

Not only would it be effortless it would be polite to do so.

Yes....Polite! Good manners, Civility.

Firms, regardless of their size or how important they may believe themselves to be need to take a good hard look at themselves.

Just how would they feel?

It is rude, it is impolite, it is bad business practice to operate such outdated methods when a literal 'flick of the switch' could make a whole lot of people feel just a little bit better about themselves. Okay they did not get the job... But they were acknowledged!

To be honest I don\t know what is worse. Those who say they will only acknowledge shortlisted applicants or those who just do nothing at all.

Send them a link to this page

Next time you are 'left out in the cold' send them a link to this page. If we all do it our existence and rights as human beings might eventually be recognised.
