Ozone Water - The Smell - I Love It - Others Disagree
Layered ozonated water – the smell – I personally love It – Others?....well....they share a different opinion. Let me share with you a balanced viewpoint. I love the smell of layered ozonated water but, surprisingly, opinions are varied. What is layered ozonated water? It is a filtered water that is also ozonated to add in the sanitizing properties. It is one major step beyond filtered water. Ozone occurs naturally and ozonated water is the same smell of a fresh garden after a thunderstorm.
Men and Children & the Smell of Layered Ozonated Water
I have met a number of men who have stated openly they like the smell of layered ozonated water. And many say their teenage children, including females, enjoy the smell because they like the fresh, spring aroma and are disappointed when the aroma quickly dissipates.
Your Nose Knows
Your Olfactory Glands
olfactory gland n.
Any of the branched tubuloalveolar glands situated in the mucous membrane of the olfactory region of the nasal cavity that produce mucus to moisten the olfactory epithelium and dissolve odor-containing gases. Also called Bowman's gland.

Nostalgic Smells
Dr Alan Hirsch is a neurologist in the United States who specializes in the treatment of people who lose their sense of smell or taste, he runs the Smell and Taste Treatment And Research Foundation that studies the "olfactory-evoked recall". His research has found smells can trigger immediately childhood memories. Dr. Hirsch has canvassed over 1000 people. One of the interesting facts is "people born before 1930 tend to recall odors associated with nature more than people born in later decades. This may reflect increasing urbanization after the 30s."
Women & the Smell of Layered Ozonated Water
Women, on the other hand, typically do not find the smell of ozone enjoyable or least those with whom I have come in contact. The smell of ozone is very distinctive. For non-gardeners, perhaps there is no nostalgia. It is said that many of our memories are triggered by our nose and not sight or vision. It is the aroma of warm cookies, the smell of a Thanksgiving turkey wafting throughout the house during holiday times, a certain perfume or cologne that spurs the most vivid memories.
Perhaps I stray from my fellow females in the fact that I love the early morning dew, the serenity of gardening before the world is awake. It is that smell that I connect with layered ozonated water. But others are probably right - if they have no reference point and it smells very distinctive - I can appreciate their opinion.
My Perception of the Smell of Layered Ozonated Water
I love the smell of ozonated water. I am perhaps the black sheep among women. Although I must admit one of my favorite activities is being in the garden early morning just after a thunderstorm. It isn’t the smell that comes after just any light rain, the smell is the distinctive aroma that follows a true thunderstorm. And the smell is very fleeting, about 30 seconds, much like the strength of the ozone that only lasts 20-30 minutes. So too, the garden smell is only immediately following a thunderstorm.
Nostalgia and Your Olfactory Glands & the Smell of Layered Ozonated Water
It has been said that nothing is more nostalgic than your where your nose goes. Your nose remembers and the quickest way to bring back memories is through the olfactory glands located in your nose. I have just exposed the tricks used by candy stores and department stores from coast to coast. They all use rich smells to take us back to happier times.
The Organ of Smell (Organon Olfactorius; The Nose)
Our nose, the organ of smell also known as the organon olfactorius, consists of interior and external parts of our nose. The internal portion is commonly referred to as the nasal cavity which can be further divided into left and right nasal chambers or nostrils.
The outer nose is known as the nasus externus - great for the Latin lover. The exterior has an apex, base, clumna and nares, and nose follicles which are technically called vibrisae which help protects us from foreign debris. The bridge of the nose is the upper part of the dorsum or the middle line. All these parts help us breathe and take in oxygen to effectively distribute oxygen to our muscles and blood cells. source: Anatomy of the Human Body
Nostalgic Smells More Potent Than Our Visual Recall - The Real Source of Our Deja Vu
Research has shown that the brain more readily recalls memories from smells rather than from our sights and sounds. Typically we as human beings tend to place more emphasis upon vision over ALL the other senses, but in reality, it is the sense of smell that really has the powr to evokes déjà vu. Very often we have forgotten the event completely, yet our unfathomable minds have filed it neatly in some unreachable corner of the brain, primed for instant retrieval with the help of the nose knows!
Pungent Memories
Clothing for me has the lingering smell of events, it is the perfume or man's cologne that I remember best. Sunny summer days are recalled instantly with the pungent smell of chlorine. And Grandmother is best remembered with her smell of freshly baked cookies.
Smell of Ozone & Smell of Sparks & Smell of Layered Ozonated Water
Your grandparents’ ozone water smelled very similar to "sparks" or electrical charges because that is precisely what ozone water was back then. Layered ozonated water is more complicated and much safer than the technology of our grandparents’ era.
With layered ozonated water there are patents for low level ozone which ensure safety for our nose and lungs. Remember, this was not always the case. Plain ozonated water has stated problems with both strength and consistency, the new technology has added smart technology with microprocessors that regulate the off - gassing (none), the residual water usage (again none) and the strength and the sustainability over time.
The smell of layered ozonated water is “fresh” with low level ozone technology is in the same family of smells but completely different in strength and potency and most importantly safety.
Smell of the Photocopier and the Laser Printer
To some the smell of ozone water is said to be remind them of the smell that comes out of the photocopier and laser printer. This is the smell that I associate with the "spark" of electricity and static cling. The smell of layered ozonated water manufactured with the patented low ozone water technology is not the same smell to me. What I smell is the fresh garden that quickly and sadly dissipates.
Related Element - Oxygen
Ozone is a allotrope of oxygen.
An allotrope is a term used in chemistry to distinguish the chemical derived from a principal element such as carbon or oxygen.
As an example, a diamond is an allotrope of carbon. Likewise, graphite is an allotrope of carbon also. The basic elements essentially branch out and create new chemical compounds derived from the same element but taking very different forms.
Therefore, the smell of oxygen is not similar to the smell of ozone yet both are allotropes of the element oxygen.
Oxygen bars are not the same as layered ozonated water. Remember, oxygen is the chemical compound of O2, Ozone is O3. Perhaps you can say they are siblings, close cousins but definitely not the same. Likewise, an oxygen bar is breathing oxygen not ozonated water. The smell is different.
OK, so you are like me and have never been to an oxygen bar. I often joke that they don't let me out much - this is very true. An oxygen bar is a place where you can inhale high purity oxygen. Essentially they have the same feel of a day spa or, in certain cases, a singles bar. Instead of alcohol for relaxation, the "sessions" of smell range from 5 to 30 minutes with the average being 15 minutes - according to various web sites on the Internet.
According to the guidance from the American Lung Association, there is "probably no risk when used for short periods (less than 60 minutes) through a nasal cannula. Oxygen is an irritant to the lungs with long exposure (more than several hours)." Breathe O2
"There are several known allotropes of oxygen:
· Free radicals O1 - unstable
· dioxygen, O2 - colorless
· ozone, O3 - blue
· tetraoxygen, O4 - metastable
· solid oxygen exists in 6 variously colored phases - of which one is O8 and another one metallic
"Triatomic oxygen (Ozone, O3), is a very reactive allotrope of oxygen that is destructive to materials like rubber and fabrics and is also damaging to lung tissue." source: Allotropes of Ozone
Layered ozonated water is manufactured with both filters and ozonation. Ozonation offers the same strength of Mother Nature as a natural disinfectant combating difficult bacteria such as E. coli, MRSA and salmonella.

Oxygen & Ozone Water - Allotropes of One Element
Ozone is a allotrope of oxygen.
An allotrope is a term used in chemistry to distinguish the chemical derived from a prinicipal element such as carbon, oxygen, nitrogen or hydrogen.
As an example, take a diamond which is an allotrope of carbon. Likewise, graphite is an allotrope of carbon also. The basis elements essentially branch out and create new chemical compounds derived from the same element but taking very different forms.
Therefore, the smell of oxygen is not similar to the smell of ozone, both are allotropes of the element oxygen and like the similarities of the relation to the element of origin (the diamond and graphic) that is where the analogy ends.

Smell of Layered Ozonated Water Specific to Low Ozone Patented Technology
The smell of layered ozonated water is unique - to me personally, it does not resemble the copier or the laser printer or the electrical "spark".
To me, the gardener, I conjure up early, peaceful
mornings with the flowers heavy with dew and the sweet smell only
attributable to the most recent thunderstorm; a smell similar to the "thunderstorm smell", a memorable smell that quickly and sadly leaves - leaving me with only a happy memory.
