Anyone that knows me understands that I am a sports fan; I love playing and watching sports. My first love is basketball followed shortly by football. I think my love for basketball is stronger than my love for football simply because I used to play when I was younger. I was even on a team before I got pregnant and only stopped playing because of the pregnancy. I loved playing and still do when I get the chance which is rare. I love shooting around with my kids although it makes me wish I could actually play a game. Hopefully soon I will find a league that I can play in again.

I try to go to as many basketball games and events that I can. Now that Seattle does not have a NBA basketball team that is a bit more difficult luckily there is still the WNBA. Before the WNBA came to Seattle there was the ABL team the Seattle Reign and back in the late 90s I took my father to his first professional women’s basketball game he really enjoyed watching the game but could not get out of his head how back in his day when he was growing up women did not play sports period. He was impressed at how far women have come. This amazed me a bit because my upbringing was quite different. I had been playing sports since I was a little girl and remembered many women role models in different sports. During my college years I followed women’s basketball as well which has continued on until present. I enjoy basketball period and that includes professional and college women’s or men’s. Of course I do have my preferences but enjoy watching any type of basketball.

Women have come so far in terms of sports and their accomplishments. And I know that they will continue to make huge strides. This was completely evident to me today when Pat Summitt hit yet another milestone in her illustrious career. February 5^th 2009 is an amazing day for an incredibly talented coach because Pat Summitt has in fact out done so many by acquiring her 1,000^th win as the coach of the Lady Volunteers. This is simply one of a long line of milestones for this successful coach.

Pat Summitt was born Patricia Sue Head on June 14, 1952 in Clarksville, Tennessee she is the head coach of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball team and has been coaching the team since 1974. Pat Summitt has many coaching accolades and is the all-time winningest coach in NCAA basketball history. Hands down Pat Summitt is one of the most amazing coaches period.

For Pat Summitt she has been amazing to women’s college basketball by reaching her 1,000^th win on February 5, 2009 and now has a record of 1000 – 187 in her 35 year coaching career an incredible feat for any coach.

January 10, 1975 - No. 1 - Pat Summit records her first win with the Lady Volunteers Winning 69-32 against MiddleTennesseeState.

January 13, 1979 - No. 100 – Pat Summit records her 100^th win 79-66 against North CarolinaState.

December 3, 1982 - No. 200 – Pat Summit records her 200^th win 69-56 against St. John’s.

January 4, 1987 - No. 300 – Pat Summitt records her 300^th win against North Carolina.

January 25, 1990 - No. 400 – Pat Summitt records her 400^th win 70 – 69 against South Carolina.

November 21, 1993 - No. 500 – Pat Summitt records her 500^th win 80 – 45 against OhioState.

November 23, 1996 – No. 600 – Pat Summitt records her 600^th win 83 -68 against Marquette.

December 5, 1999 – No. 700 – Pat Summitt records her 700^th win 85-62 against Wisconsin joining Jody Conradt as the only women’s coaches to reach the 700-win club.

January 14, 2003 – No. 800 – Pat Summitt records her 800^th win 76-57 against DePaul.

March 22, 2005 – No. 880 – Pat Summitt records her 880^th win 75-54 against Purdue putting Summitt past former University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, men’s coach Dean Smith as the winningest basketball coach in NCAA history.

January 19, 2006 – No. 900 – Pat Summitt records her 900^th win 80-68 against Vanderbilt.

February 5, 2009 – No. 1,000 – Pat Summitt records her 1,000^th win 73-43 against Georgia.

Pat Summitt has been nothing less than stellar as a coach and her 1,000 – 187 record proves just that. She is a selfless person who always credits others around her including her team for the successes that she has garnered. She has in fact hit her summit although I am sure there is more to come from this amazing woman, person and coach.
