Peek-A-Pom Hybrid Dogs (Pominese, Peke-A-Pom )
81Physical Description
The Peek-A-Pom dog, also known as the Pominese dog is a hybrid dog that is a cross between a Pekingese and a Pomeranian. As such they are a toy sized dog, weighing under ten pounds, some just topping the scales at 4 pounds, and measuring six to ten inches at the shoulder.
They may have the coat of the Pekingese, longer and silkier, or the slightly coarser, more dense coat of the Pomeranian. Colors range from tan and cream through to fawns, reds, sables and even black and tan colorations with or without white markings.
The body of the Peke-A-Pom tends to be longer than they are tall with short, well set legs and a long, plumed tail. The tail may be carried in a tight curl over the back or high on the hips. The head is well balanced on a shorter neck that is set high on the shoulders, giving the dog a very proud carriage. The ears are either fully pricked or turned over, often with longer hair blending into the hair of the ruff of the neck. The eyes are round, slightly prominent and highly visible in the face. The muzzle is moderately short and slightly tapered, ending with a dark nose. The short hair across the muzzle area and on the lower jaw is often a light cream to white color.

Temperament
A very playful and active dog hybrid, this little dog is a bundle of fun and personality. They are an ideal companion pet for older children but may not be accepting of very young children. They can be startled by sudden and load movements and noises, plus they may be too small for very young children to handle safely. Peekapom puppies are typically less than one pound when they go to a new owners house and young kids may not realize how fragile these puppies can be.
The Pominese dog is a highly intelligent little dog that, like many of the toy hybrid breeds, may have a tendency to try to be the boss of the house. Early socialization and obedience training is important to prevent them from becoming possessive and territorial. When raised with cats and other dogs they do very well however if raised by themselves it may be difficult for them to adjust to new pets in the house once they mature.
Housetraining can be challenging because of their small size and many owners choose to litter box or paper train these small puppies to make the process easier.

Grooming and General Care
The plush coat of the Peke-A-Pom dog will need routine, every other day grooming with a pin brush or grooming comb to stay looking shiny and healthy. They will shed an average amount year round but grooming will help prevent hair loss throughout the house.
Tooth loss and dental problems may be an issue with this dog hybrid so start a routine of tooth brushing and feeding high quality toy sized dog kibble as soon as possible. Some Pominese may be very finicky eaters and may be prone to digestive problems if food is switched too often or the dog is allowed to eat treats, canned food or table scraps. Start out with a good quality food and stick with it for the health of the dog.
