I am defintely going to try these recipes! Thanks for offering them; they sound very good.
Thats Great, Maddie.
Promoting the good and real stuff. Eat right, exercise choose the right habits and lifestyle. It seems to me that too many of us are always looking for the quick fix in everything we do. People want to lose weight the look for the miracle pill. Want to look good, go get a little nip tuck, Want to feel good, lets drink a little of this, smoke a little of that. The easiest way is usually not the best way.
The best things in life are free, but we all have to put in some effort by our part. Then and only then we will reap the rewards and those rewards are much more than we can ever imagine. However we have to remember it’s an inside job. We get out of life what we put into it.
Maddie keep up the good work.

P.S. Please come look at my pages I am new and would love some friends
I don't know what is about peppermint pie that just doesn't sound right. I love unique stuff though and am willing to try just about anything. Have to put this one to the test :) Definitely the fudge!
michaelgrisso:
Ah, well, to each his or her own! The peppermint pie is less pepperminty than the other two desserts, since you are using vanilla frozen yogurt. You could use low-fat peppermint ice cream, if you can get ahold of it. Or, if you're not worried about fat and calories, go all out and use the full-fat regular kind.
Maddie, it looks like a great recipe, but why go low fat? I mean, I think it's great to indulge in sweets every onc ein a while, but the lower the fat, the higher the carbs, because it's all a matter of percentages. Why not use real whipped cream? It'll taste better and it's more filling, and you'll tend to eat less sugar that way, because you won't want seconds. When we have low fat treats, we usually end up eating more, because fat is what we're craving.
Aya:
I think it's all a matter of personal needs and desires. Some people don't want dessert to be filling. Some people prefer the taste of lower-fat foods (I know I personally can't stomach the taste of whole milk). Some people are watching their cholesterol or trying to lose weight. Lower fat does not necessarily mean added carbs. The ingredients in these recipes are mostly all naturally low-fat (like skim milk and frozen yogurt), and as I said above, you can easily substitute full-fat products if you prefer.
Maddie, you're right. It is a matter of personal needs and desires. But a low fat food is usually a high carb food, because usually you're just taking out fat, and leaving the carbs and proteins alone. It's just a question of percentages. You are then going to end up with fewer total calories in the food, but a higher percentage of carbs than in the same food with the fat still in it. Now, if you make up the difference for the calories you lost and eat a high fat food next time, then it all evens out and no harm done. But if, given a choice, you always choose low fat options on all your foods, then overall, it means you're eating a higher percentage of carbs, unless you add extra protein to make up for the lost fat.
A high carb diet is a good choice for people who have a high metabolism, or are underweight and are trying to gain weight. But for people with a sluggish metabolism or those who would like to lose weight, it is not a good choice.
Well, it's true that if you're eating less calories total, and less calories from fat, the percentage of your calories coming from carbs is higher than if you were eating more calories and more fat, but you aren't actually eating more carbs than you would be anyway, at least in this case (things like skim milk have fat removed, but don't have carbs added to them).
I'm glad you're thinking critically. Too many people get caught up in the latest crazes and don't bother to investigate for themselves. I, personally, don't advocate "diets" at all. I think people should concentrate on eating a balance of foods from all the food groups, including fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, and unsaturated fats--and enjoying their food, rather than obsessing over it.
Anyway, I'm happy to discuss diet, but I'd prefer to do it in a more relevant place. This hub is not meant to pass judgement on any one philosophy of nutrition, merely to provide people who are searching for this particular thing--Low Fat Peppermint Dessert Recipes--with what they're looking for ;)
Maddie, okay, I guess it was not the best forum to bring this up in. Anyway, the recipe looks good!
