Picking the perfect tattoo

Confused on your body art? I'll help you figure it out

One of the hardest things about getting a tattoo is picking out what you want. I personally have two tattoos, they are dog paws and they are on my forearms. They are just a basic outline because that's what i wanted. Ever since i got my tattoos I find myself constantly looking at other people's tattoos and try to figure out why they picked that and why it was put where it was. First things to consider is that yes it is basically forever unless you wish to get it laser off which hurts just as bad and cost a lot more to get done and takes a while for it to get all the way off. OK now that you have considered that lets talk about ideas on what to get. Let's list off some things that may help you decide.

First off are you getting this tattoo somewhere that is going to be hidden or somewhere that is going to be scene. Personally my thoughts are that if you plan on keeping it hidden, don't get a tattoo because you aren't proud of it and aren't comfortable enough with your own life decisions to display it as a something to honor then why would you even bother getting it if you aren't proud of it. None the less, the area you plan on putting it will decide the size of it, and then the size of it will decide your design.

When selecting a design the size will play a big variable to deal with because the smaller it is, the less detail you can have because if it's too small then the small lines will just end up blending all together and looking like a blob. So keep into consideration the complexity of the tattoo when picking the size. The larger the piece the more detail you can have.

Now that you've decided on the place and size now you have to think of the actual piece of art you want on your body. Here are just some thing i notice when looking at peoples tattoos. Women tend to get them on their lower back, ankle, or their hip bones. Men tend to get them around their arms like bands, across the back of their shoulders and on their arms. So if you are concerned about looking like everyone then consider that.

Women's tattoos can sometimes really enhance the woman's shape and when done right a tattoo can flow with the natural curves of a woman and look amazing. Women are beautiful creatures and having a beautiful tattoo can really show that off. So if you're a woman get something that's elegant and beautiful to help show that you are a woman and that you are beautiful.

Guys.......enough with the tribal arm bands around your biceps and your last names across the back of your shoulders. Honestly nobody cares if you have barb wire on your biceps, that doesn't make you tough. Also name tags work just as well as a last name tattoo in old English.

So what do you want on your body? Basically get what YOU want. Don't try to impress other people and get what you think other people will like. People think I'm lame because i got dog paws and they are just plain simple outlines. Everyone said I should get them like tearing into my flesh with blood coming out and all this other bull-crap. That's now who i am and that's not what i want. I love dogs, i have 2 dogs right now and one of my dogs just died and it was like losing a family member. I have had my dogs since they were all puppies and we have grown up all together.

Ask yourself, who are you, and what do you love? That should be what you get. Something that will remind you of who you are and what you mean to yourself. Take your time choosing and don't commit to it unless you are positive that you want it. Tattoos are an extension of yourself and personality. Your body is a blank canvas for you design on. Tattoos don't make you a bad person or lower yourself because you have a tattoo. What is the difference between tattoos and clothing. You use both to express who you are and what you want people to know about you. Hopefully you realize that finding a tattoo design is about finding out who you are and what you love. Good luck and make sure you research the tattoo shop before getting a tattoo that it is healthy and that you won't get any infections.

What do you think about temporary tattoos?

I think temporary tattoos are alright unless you're trying to fit in with a crowd. Tattoos are about oneself, not others.

what kind of cat, a wild cat? or houes cat? Also where do you want it, how big, what are you trying to convey, all these things you should consider when picking a tattoo. I might be able to help you out a little if you give me a little more info on what you're trying to do, i think you might even figure it out yourself if you start sitting down and maybe writing the things you want.

I stumbled upon this page and signd up just for this discussion! I have two tats right now, and I'm considering my third. I haven't discussed it with anyone yet, but I thought maybe some like-minded folks could help me figure it out.

I do alot of animal rescue, domesticated animals, and mostly dogs. I have a friend in rescue, and she has some paw prints on her neck, but they look kind of sinister. I don't want that. I would like something that is not breed specific, as I love all dogs, and paw prints came to mind. However, I feel like they've been done to death, and I was looking for a fresh approach. Location will either be lumbar area or ankle, haven't decided. I don't want anything goth or sinister, but I don't want anything cartoonish either. I'm very devoted to my life in rescue, and I want it to be beautiful, simple, and passionate. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much!

Paw prints would be a great way to go. They dont have to look sinister it all depends on how you design it. YOu might want to incorporate something about the rescue of animals into it also.

I have been indecisive about the tattoo i want to get. on one side of the spectrum, i want to get something personal, to connect myself with the people who i love who have passed on, i was thinking about this great quote, but i wouldn't know where to put it, i am a blank canvas so far so this will be my first but anyhow, i was wondering if anyone has any advise about where it should go/where it would look best. The quote is, "Love is... taking a moment to remember.

Dogs have always been a huge part of my life. I currently have a German Shepherd that I love and adore and she is like my daughter. I have thought about getting a tattoo of her one day and to me, the perfect portrait would be of her looking at me with her head tilted so curious like. It just perfectly tells her story. My mom has a cocker and he is one of the coolest dogs I have ever lived with, he is loving, lazy, easy going, and a baby. But when I think of cockers I think of their stubby tails and their long ears. I also think of the way he sleeps and will act like he is asleep so I wont bug him. Its more about who he is rather than what he/she looks like. Just remember who the dog is. Dogs are the perfect companions who always love us and I think they make an awesome tattoo. Thats why I have dog paws on me.
