Popping

Popping is one of the many movies associated with BreakDancing. Popping is basically when people quickly tighten there muscle then release it. By learning how to tie these together, it can make up almost all of a dance itself. It was originally started in the 1970s to Funk music, but over time has been taken and changed by hip hop dancers. Popping takes a lot of muscle control to do accurately as it involves many moves connected in a chain type order.

Locking

Locking is the act of having quick locking hand movements with more relaxed legs and body. Locking is mostly an interactive part of the dance allowing high fives with the audience, it is also used by background dancers to create effects if with a group or crew. Locking, was also started in the 1970's around funk music.

Learning

Most of these dances are not taught in any school. The best outlet to learn them is from someone who already knows them or though videos like youtube. Here is a basic learning video:

The most direct example of Popping and Locking is shown in this music video for the song "Pop Lock and Drop it":

It all adds to advanced dances like these two videos:

Wow, nice! :) I actually do some dance choreography for our school programs. I could use a few simplified variations of popping and locking on our next presentation. Thanks. :)
