Christmas Dishes with codfish
Ingredients:
4 thick pieces of codfish already without salt
potatoes 1.5kgs
Olive oil 2,5 dl
2 medium cabbage
Home-made wheat bread
4 eggs
garlic, vinegar, salt and pepper
Peel the potatoes and cut them into slices. Peel the garlic cloves,. Pick and wash off the leaves of cabbage and eyes.

Put water in a pot, put in the stove to cook and when boiling ad the vegetables, potatoes and eggs. Cook the cod in another other pot for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, cut the bread into slices and place it in a bowl spread over 2 garlic cloves, chopped in very small pieces. Pour the water from cooking the cod on the bread to be soaked and the excess liquid drips. Pour half of the olive oil.

Place the bread on the cod, potatoes and cabbage fine drained. Spread on top, the broken eggs in half or in slices, and the remaining garlic cloves, chooped in very slamll pieces. Pour with the rest of the olive oil and less vinegar.

Cover with another bowl and shake until everything is well moistened. Asside, serve a small bowl with olive oil and vinegar, pepper and garlic cloves, so anyone can ad more.

I can say codfish in Portuguese, but I can't remember how to spell it...Buculao, or something like that.
So is codfish still salted there, or are they freezing it now?
As far as your English, you do as good or better than a lot of us.
What part of Portugal are you from, I served church missions in Lisboa (Roma area) Porto (on the beach area), Povoa de Varzin, Villa Nova de Gaia, Graga, and Setubal.

Hi Eovery, codfish spells like this bacalhau, we read the "a" as "a", you read "u" as an "a" and you don't have the conjugation "lh", sounds like ll in spain.
I'm from O'Porto, my origins are from the north, Tras-os-Montes (rough translation behind-the-mountains)...
I like Póvoa, is nice, Vila Nova de Gaia is awfull, the traffic and noise not to mention the streets.
Braga oh my so many viaducts (or is it flyover bridges), the most confusing town for me!

Like I said, I could almost say bacalhau, but I couldn't quite remember how to spell.
When I was in Oporto, I was on the very west side of town, over on the Ocean. I used to take the trolley over there, and walk up and down the beaches and the park next to it.
I looked at many of the places I used to roam on Google earth. It looks like many of the areas have changed. I can't find my apartment in Gaia, I think there was a major highway construction done there, since the early 1980's.
I was one of the white shirt, Mormom Missionaries. It was great.
Tras-os Montes, is more like the other side of the hill, isn't.
Furthest north I got was Vila de Castanho and Braga,

Oh, I ate this when I was in Portugal and I loved this. You Portuguese people have the way with codfish. One trouble I have here in the US, we have a hard time getting salted codfish, so it is hard to replicate the exact test.
And Bolas de Berlin, I love them!
Also, the Portuguese bread is great.
Keep the recipes coming. I understand there are over one hundred different ways to prepare codfish. I want all of them!
