Graduation Day - May 22, 2010

Wake up in the morning and rub my eyes,

Is today really here or is it just a demise?

Shower and get ready for I must look my best,

For my walk down the aisle and all the rest.

Hair and makeup and my new spring dress,

Slightly intimidated by today I will confess.

Professors and classmates of the past four years gone by,

They say congratulations and look me in the eye.

Words of encouragement and good luck are said,

Hoping for the best on where my future is led.

We walk this morning and hear the birds tweet,

Final exams and intense studying has left us all beat.

Walk through campus and down to the PE center,

Calling my parents before we enter,

To make sure they made it and that their cameras are handy,

Knowing some classmates will bring a handle of brandy.

Hub #21 in the challenge.
Hub #21 in the challenge.

Sitting in anticipation we watch everyone’s faces,

Candid smiles and happiness and pure elation.

Receiving their diplomas, proud hugs and kisses,

Knowing this is the place everyone past-graduated misses.

Sitting in our seats and growing weary,

And some parents begin to get teary.

Tomorrow our lives will be changed forever,

Some days I wish I could just pull a lever,

To go back in time and experience those days in repeat,

For these were the days of our lives, where we got all we could eat.

At last it was our turn to rise from our seats,

Gather inline for the meet and greet.

With professors along the way before I go on stage,

To gather my diploma that hopes to bring a decent wage.

Cameras are taking pictures of everyone and everything,

Mom’s favorite part is when the graduation song sings.

The traditional one that everyone recognizes,

The Pomp and Circumstance plays and tears well up in eyes.

Standing in line, best friend in front of me and boyfriend in tow,

I in the middle because that is how it goes.

These two stood by and we enjoyed each others company most,

Graduation party tomorrow, there will be a toast.

Raising our glasses to the class of 2010,

If I could, believe me I would do it all again.
