Ravi Varma a Keralite Prince

Raja Ravi Varma one of the most famous Indian painter. He was born in a keralite royal family. He learned painting from Indian painters and later from a British painter. The knowledge he acquired both from Indian and western techniques reflects in his paintings. Although his themes were mainly Indian, he expressed them through western influenced style. His depiction of the beauty of the Indian woman is unequalled in Indian art. He painted scenes from Indian epics and other mythological and religious literature. Most of the figures of gods and godesses currently in use among Hindus are based on Ravi Varma's paintings.
