Romancing Your Significant Other On A Budget - Eight Free Activities For Couples.
Picnic Baskets For Two...
....And A Picnic Blanket.
My mother once told me "If you want to keep the romance in your marriage alive and well; 'date' your spouse."
Out of all the advice my mother has ever given me, this has to be one of my top ten "nuggets of wisdom."
Realistically though, since I'm a stay-at-home mother of two toddlers, and a wife to a fine husband who is the sole provider of our family, it has become quite a challenge both time-wise and financially to heed this advice.
So what do couples like ourselves do when searching for ways to romance our significant others on a budget?
Here are eight free activities (other than the obvious ... we're all adults here, so you know what I mean) that will help couples keep the romance alive and well:
1.) Free Movie Night At Home.
Forget the crowds. Forget the long lines. Forget the high ticket prices. With library card in hand, you could rent a couple of romantic comedies, romantic dramas - or whatever your preference - at your local library for free!.
Pop some popcorn, grab a couple of snacks, your favorite beverage, a cozy blanket to share, turn out the lights, and you've got yourself a nice quiet movie night at home for two.
2.) Free Movie Night In The Park.
If you want the advantage of a big screen, but desire a more open air environment, a free movie in the park is right up your alley.
Many local parks provide free showings of classic movies specifcally targeted for couples.
Grab a blanket, some snacks and your favorite beverage, and you're in for a unique and romantic experience.
* Tune into your local government channels, or locate your local park's event calendar to keep you up to date concerning free events such as these.
3.) Free Jazz Night In The Park.
Picture this - It's a warm and humid night. The air is filled with heavy perfumes and the rich, seductive sounds of Jazz music.
Fireflies flit about, as couples young and old sway to the pulsating music, or lounge lazily on the cool grass whilst the music envelopes them - mind, body, and soul.
If this sounds like the perfect date for you and your significant other, then free Jazz Night In the Park is the activity for the two of you.
Grab a couple of blankets or lawn chairs, your favorite beverage, and you're ready for a romantic night out under the stars.
4.) Free Picnic In The Park.
This is another great activity for the "dating" married couple - a free picnic in the park.
Also held in local state or city parks, this event provides free entertainment for all who attend.
All you need to bring is you, your spouse, a picnic blanket and a picnic basket filled to the brim with tasty treats (this idea also works well if you opt to "picnic" at home).
5.) Free Poetry Readings.
If you and your significant other is into the written word, why not visit your local coffee shop or artist cafe for free poetry readings.
Depending on the subject, it's a great way to get romantic with the love of your life.
6.) Free Mic Night.
Another great activity for the couple professing a love for the written arts is free Mic night at your local coffee shop, club, or artist cafe.
Dedicate an original love poem, an original song, or an original musical piece to your significant other, and it'll be an experience they'll never forget.
* A look in the Accent, or Local Events section of your local newspaper should keep you up-to-date regarding events like these, or word-of-mouth.
7.) Free Wine Tasting.
If it's a more upscale experience you and your spouse are searching for, look no further than your local wineries.
In addition to offering free wine tasting sessions, some local wineries posses small art galleries that provide wine lovers an opportunity to mingle and hobnob with other wine and art enthusiast.
* Sign up with your local winery's Websites and keep abreast of what activities they have to offer.
8.) Walk On The Beach.
Searching for an activity that simply oozes romance? How about a walk on the beach.
To create a little ambiance, do your walking while the sun is rising or setting, or opt for a nightly stroll underneath the starry heavens.
Walking hand-in-hand, with the wind blowing through your hair and clothes, and with the feel of the cool sand beneath your feet - walking on the beach is a great way to get those romantic juices flowing.
In the end, "dating" your spouse doesn't necessarily mean you have to break the bank.
The fires of romance can still be kept burning alive even on the strictest of budgets.
So if you're looking for free activities to help keep the romance alive and well in your marriage, why not give these a try.
