Sims 3 Ambitions Ghost Hunter Profession Guide

Updated on June 27, 2010

One of the quirkier careers in the Sims 3 Ambitions is the Ghost Hunter career. It's perfect for players who want their sims to do something with their work lives besides disappear into a rabbit hole for 8 tedious hours, and who want more out of their sim's lives than mere political or financial success. Ghost hunters in the sims 3 must be ready to be called out at any time of the day or night, (though their working hours are from 5pm until 3am, because apparently, all the hauntings in the sim universe are unionized.)

Which Sims Make The Best Ghost Hunters?

Sims suited to the ghost hunting career are eccentric geniuses, so if your sim is more suited to smushing make up over the unsuspecting mugs of other sims with their artistic talent, leveling the ghost hunting profession may take longer than it is worth.

How Do Ghost Hunters Make Money?

Well of course there is the stipend you get given for rushing about the city in a jumpsuit sucking up ghosts, but you also get paid for showing up to people's houses and successfully ridding them of their ghosts and poltergeists. In addition to this, the ghosts themselves are actually worth money, which is a little creepy to this simmer, after all, are these not the spirits of sims previously passed on? Is selling their ghosts not therefore something akin to dead sim trafficking? I don't know, but what I do know is that the ghosts lose value as you keep them in your inventory, which I guess means that whoever is buying these poor lost souls off you likes them to be fresh. Ick.

Anyway, it's all more simoleons in the virtual bank for your sim.

Ghosts For Trafficking!

There are several (actually seven) different types of ghosts you can catch and sell for profit. These are Kind, Friendly, Frightened, Lost, Wrathful, Jealous and Evil. They sound sort of like the Seven Dwarfs, except they don't live in a little shack with a princess cooking for them.

Anyway, these seven types of spirits come in three flavors or 'ages'. Young, Old, and Ancient. The older they are, the more they are worth.

Job Satisfaction

To make the ghost hunter profession more varied, there are various types of jobs you'll be called out on. The Spirit Invasion is the first type of job and pretty much simply involves you running around from house to house sucking up spooks. You'll know when you're in a haunted house, because the place will be tainted with a green glow and there will be spooky low lying fog around the grounds. Once you clear the invasion, the fog lifts and the house returns to normal.

In addition to this there are quick Community Investigation jobs that return to the old rabbit hole formula, rewarding you for pretty much doing nothing. Yay!

As you continue through the career you'll also have to deal with Poltergeist Invasions, where a poltergeist has inhabited some furniture. Take your time and look for suspicious couches, lamps and other common household items to catch the spirit and make some cash.

When you've reached level 5 and unlocked the Spook-o-Meter, you'll be doing more advanced jobs, where the spirits don't just hang about waiting for you to come and suck them up, but instead must be detected with the spook-o-meter. If they're angry, they'll be breaking stuff until you find them.
