More Smoothies Recipes for the New Year

One of my New Year's resolutions is to eat a more healthy diet. I've always been a big fan of fruit smoothies, but for some reason never made them often. I don't know why- fruit smoothies are quick and easy to make, incredibly delicious, and fruit smoothie recipes are very healthy. And I've never been a big breakfast eater, so smoothies would be a perfect choice to start off my mornings.

So, I've dug out my favorite fruit smoothie recipes and posted them here. If your New Year's resolution involves a healthy diet or losing weight, try some of these delicious fruit smoothie recipes.

Cuckoo for Cocoa Banana Smoothie Recipe

This is one of my all-time favorite fruit smoothies recipes. Who can resist chocolate flavor and bananas? I sure can't, and neither can my kids. Here's my favorite banana smoothie recipe:

Cocoa Banana Smoothie Recipe - Makes 1 fruit smoothie

  • 1 large banana
  • 2-3 ice cubes, depending on your preference for the thickness

  • 3/4 cup chocolate milk (or use regular milk and 2 tablespoons chocolate flavored Ovaltine or Nestle Quick powder)
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • Optional to taste- 1 tablespoon sugar or honey or one small envelope of powdered stevia or artificial sweetener

First, chop up a peeled banana into chunks or slices. Freeze for at least a few hours in a freezer bag. After banana is frozen, simply put in a blender with the rest of the ingredients. Process until smooth. Pour into a glass and enjoy your healthy fruit smoothie for breakfast or a healthy snack!

Here are some delicious options that can be added to this banana smoothie recipe-

Almond or vanilla extract (about 1/4 teaspoon)

Try evaporated milk for a richer and creamier smoothie recipe

Soy milk or rice milk can also be substituted for regular milk

Slip in a tablespoon of wheat germ or flaxseeds for even more healthy goodness

Sensational Strawberry Fruit Smoothie Recipe

Strawberry Smoothie Recipe - Makes 1 fruit smoothie

  • 3/4 cup milk or soy milk
  • 1 cup frozen unsweetened or sweetened strawberries
  • 1/2 cup strawberry yogurt
  • 2 ice cubes if you prefer a thicker fruit smoothie recipe
  • optional 2 tablespoons honey

Place the frozen strawberries in a blender along with the rest of the fruit smoothie ingredients. Process until smooth and pour into glasses.

Note: Fresh strawberries may be substituted. If you want a smoothie consistency, freeze them for a few hours before preparing your strawberry fruit smoothie recipe.

Apple Fruit Smoothie Recipe

Apple Smoothie Recipe - Makes 1 Apple Fruit Smoothie

  • 1 chopped apple
  • 1/3 cup apple juice or apple cider
  • 1/4 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 2 ice cubes

Put everything into a blender and blend until smooth enough to drink.

Note: My kids like a little bit of honey and cinnamon added, but I like this apple fruit smoothie as is.

I love smoothies. I actually use frozen fruit, then there is no need for ice.

Stacie and Bob, I use fresh or frozen fruit for my fruit smoothies. It depends on what I have. But sometimes even with frozen fruit, especially in the summer, I like to add ice cubes to my smoothies.

Compu-smart, if you like fruit, try a smoothie. They are delicious. And I also wish I was in Australia. One of my good friends is from there. Man, I wish I could visit.
