Ghost Story Of The Hound Of Goshen

The ghost of a dog that has come to be known as the Hound of Goshen haunts the five mile stretch of old Buncombe road that runs between the Ebenezer Church Cemetery and the Goshen Hill Plantation. The ghost of the dog is said to be a extremely large white dog the size of a St Bernard but not a St Bernard. People have described it as looking like a very large white hound. The original road here was a stagecoach route between Ebenezer Church and the township of Goshen in Union county South Carolina.

People claim that you will be driving thru this area and that no matter what speed you are going the dog will be running beside you. If you stop it will be setting in front of your car. Some people have claimed it throws its head back and howls.People have been seeing the Hound of Goshen now for 150 years. There are usually several reports of people in the area seeing it every year. It seems it is seen more in Summer than Winter.

One legend says that the dogs master was buried in the old Ebenezer Church cemetery and that the dog followed his master to the graveyard where it lay on his grave until the dog died of starvation. It was then buried beside its master. Some people say the dogs ghost is seen because the loyal dog is still looking for his master. And that is the ghost story of the Hound of Goshen.
