St. Patrick’s Day for Cat Lovers
58I love traditional Irish music. My favorite Irish artists are The Chieftans and The Pogues. The Irish are masters at writing drinking songs that make you want to get up and dance. However, did you know that cats are also fans of Irish music?
Not since Jingle Cats has there been such a popular feline musical album as Irish Drinking Songs for Cats by Marc Gunn and the Dubliners' Tabby Cats. These songs take classic Irish drinking songs and change the lyrics around to sing about cats. Marc Gunn has two cats, Torre and Tiziano who make appearances on the albums.
Marc Gunn has gone on to record two other Irish CDs for cats. The second one featured the original songs that were parodied in Irish Drinking Songs for Cats. The third one is a brand new collection.

I do admit that I did buy Irish Drinking Songs for Cats. I love Celtic music and I love cats so I thought it would be a perfect match. I did listen to the songs a few times and I do drag out the CD at St. Patrick's Day parties.
I'm debating buying the third compilation, Whiskers in the Jar. It features parodies of such songs as Danny Boy, What Shall We Do With a Catnipped Kitty (Parody of Drunken Sailor), and Kitty at the Door.
I really recommend you listen to these albums or watch the attached videos. If, like me, you like Irish music and cats you will find the songs enjoyable. And, if you like Irish music, you will get a kick out of the parodies.

Nice songs. I wish even the lyrics were mentioned as sometimes I don't follow all the words in certain accents when he was saying "kitty eyes are smiling" after that I missed a few words. Even T.kelley has good Irish music hubs and one on Bodhran is too good. Thumbs up for a wonderful hub.
Teresa: they make Depends for a reason :)
I love Marc Gunn's lisp on Lord of the Pounce.
I tried to find lyrics but couldn't unfortunately. I guess you have to buy the CD for that :)
Thanks for the comments.
I loved this!!! I love Irish music, and hearing some of these songs parodied for cats, is just too funny!
the horror. the horror.
As a dog person, this is a wholenew world to me. I guess they must have dog ones too but I haven't a clue how to find them!
Loooooove it. Love anything Cat -I am a Crazy Cat Lady. Also of Irish descent :) (probably some orange mixed in with my green).
Thanks for the day-brightener. Gotta go - some kitty eyes are not so smilin' because she's been waiting a while for her dinner.
Wonderful and uplifting for a great holiday!
Very cute! My daughter loved the last one the best. Who can resist a pouncing kitten?
When Kitty's eyes are smiling. All the world is their play! I loved it. Adorable!
Thanks for all the great comments. They are fun songs.
Great Irish songs. The cats are great. I'm into cats and dogs. But my husband only likes dogs.
it doesn't appear your cat is happy looking like a leprechaun.
Not my cat, I found him on Google. :)
I could never get a hat and bowtie on my cat...and live to tell about it.
Its a funny picture regardless.
Purely enjoyable hub about kitties on Saint Paties Day. My cats used to like to eat green grass year around, so I suppose they are always in the St. Patrick's Day spirit.
I'm a fan of Irish music, but I have never heard of the songs for cats. That's hysterical. The Pogues rock...the band playing with all the traditional instruments, and then the singer comes in like a punk rocker! Fantastic!
Now I know what to get for gifts.
Way cute hub! I remember...once I went to a St. Patty's day party and left more sober than I came. Which was actually bad, because I was driving....I don't act that foolish anymore, though.
Here's a cute cat vid I know you'll love!

Whiskers in the Jar!!! LOL, this is hilarious -- When kitty eyes are smiling; Nooooooo! Oh, my cat loved Lord of the Pounce -- she likes to do the sideways back arch pounce at me when I'm typing on my laptop.
Dang. Don't make an old woman laugh so much, it has consequences. . . .
