St. Patrick’s Day for Cat Lovers
I love traditional Irish music. My favorite Irish artists are The Chieftans and The Pogues. The Irish are masters at writing drinking songs that make you want to get up and dance. However, did you know that cats are also fans of Irish music?
Not since Jingle Cats has there been such a popular feline musical album as Irish Drinking Songs for Cats by Marc Gunn and the Dubliners' Tabby Cats. These songs take classic Irish drinking songs and change the lyrics around to sing about cats. Marc Gunn has two cats, Torre and Tiziano who make appearances on the albums.
Marc Gunn has gone on to record two other Irish CDs for cats. The second one featured the original songs that were parodied in Irish Drinking Songs for Cats. The third one is a brand new collection.
I do admit that I did buy Irish Drinking Songs for Cats. I love Celtic music and I love cats so I thought it would be a perfect match. I did listen to the songs a few times and I do drag out the CD at St. Patrick's Day parties.
I'm debating buying the third compilation, Whiskers in the Jar. It features parodies of such songs as Danny Boy, What Shall We Do With a Catnipped Kitty (Parody of Drunken Sailor), and Kitty at the Door.
I really recommend you listen to these albums or watch the attached videos. If, like me, you like Irish music and cats you will find the songs enjoyable. And, if you like Irish music, you will get a kick out of the parodies.
