1999-2008 State Quarters and The New 2010 National Parks Quarter

Although, the ten years are up for the release of all 50 state quarters, there are many people still finishing up their collection, as there are two versions of each coin... There is a Denver and a Philadelphia mint for each of the state quarters, which means you'll really have 100 quarters in your collection.

President Bill Clinton signed the 50 States Commemorative Coin Program Act in December of 1997. The act states that for a ten year period there will be a quarter designed for each of the 50 states that was issued throughout 1999 through 2008.

With the word of new quarters, coin collectors got their tastes buds drooling, and begain collecting both mints, as the last program similar to Clinton's state program was back in 1975 and 1976 with the Bicentennial quarters, half dollars, and dollars.

Five designs (five states) were released each year throughout the ten year period, and you can guarantee that coin collectors new what dates what coin was coming out so that they could be sure they had the mint quarters in their collection.

Many collectors, would rush to the banks and exchange a few ones for quarters, versus just hope that the change they received at the cash register would inclue a few state quarters. Some collectors went straight to the source or even to various websites online to order their quarters mint to be shipped the day of they were released to the public.

If you were one of those people, or maybe you have just collected a few of the quarters, you may want to consider purchasing a quarter book so that you can safely contain all of your quarters in one nice and attractive collectors book.

You can find a number of different books that will hold the 50 state quarters. Some even hold both mints- Philadelphia and Denver.

Other than the books, you may consider purchasing the state quarter maps, which are essentially the same thing, but you put the quarters in the slots of the individual state.

Both methods of storing your quarters are going to be a good way to make sure that they are kept together and not floating around in a drawer somewhere. 

When is the next quarter program? Well in 2010, you will start to see newly designed quarters... 

The United States Mint will start issuing coins that will feature the national parks and other national sites in 2010. These quarters will be issued and minted under thet "America's Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008" Act.

The program is another multi-year ordeal, where a new design will be released every 10 weeks or so.

The national parks and sites are selected from each of the 56 host jurisdictions, including the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and each of the US territories (the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands).

Just like the state quarters, the portrait of George Washington will remain on one side of the quarters, with the design on the reverse side.
