Make no friendship with an angry man,
And with a furious man do not go,
(Proverbs 22:24 - NKJ)

What is Anger

Anger is a basic human emotion that is experienced by all people. Typically triggered by an emotional hurt, anger is usually experienced as an unpleasant feeling that occurs when we think we have been injured, mistreated, opposed in our long-held views, or when we are faced with obstacles that keep us from attaining personal goals.

Anger is perhaps the worst emotions which need to be controlled. From time to time we are all face this strong emotion. Some common causes of anger include frustration, hurt, annoyance, disappointment, harassment, and threats. This helps us to realize that anger can be a friend or enemy, depending on how we express it. Knowing how to recognize and express anger appropriately, can help us to achieve these goals, and overcome the anger, solve the problems and even protect our health. Like the Proverbs said, bad emotion (anger) could be transferred. Good emotion will bring good influence to other people and vice versa. When someone living in anger, hatred, and do not want to forgive, then the person could suffer a vulnerable disease. It's hard to explain what is the connection between anger and disease but like many people with hard disease (not all), they seem to keep hatred and anger feeling inside.

People are vary in how easily they get angry and how bad their anger are. How often anger occurs, how intensely it is felt, and how long it lasts are different for each person.

Simple Steps to Overcome Anger

1. Take a deep breath and exhale it slowly.
2. Take some minutes to calm down, close your eyes and pray if you can pray. Or just meditate for few minutes. Give praises to the Lord.
3. Stop thinking things that could make your heart 'boiling'.
4. Put yourself on someone's else shoe. It sometime could make you understand the situation clearly.
5. Keep in your mind that we are all human that still make a mistake.
6. Learn how to laugh at yourself and find a good humor in every situation.
7. Learn how to be more relax.
8. Perhaps you often hear that expressing anger is better than keep it, but out of control anger could be dangerous. It will sooner or later hurt people around you. Out of control anger alienates friends, co-workers and family members.
9. Learn to trust other people. If you learn to trust people, you could reduce your anger to them.
10. Learn to be a good listener. This skill will increase the understanding among people. Anger may caused by lack of communication and miss understanding. Like your spouse is angry with you because you don't understand what he or she means and get more angrier when you demand some explanations.
11. If you are angry with someone, tell him or her what made you angry. Explain to them what bothered you.
12. Learn to forgive. Once you forgive, your anger will vanish and your burden will be released. Life is too short and too beautiful to be filled with anger.

Yes, I can say I have been a former victim of this. I was very young and naive and really insecure. But I survived it. I never subjected my children to it, they were born after I left him. But to this day, I still suffer the PTSD. If my current spouse makes a sudden move, say, in an explosive conversation, I cringe back without even thinking. Reflex instinct. But the good thing is that this former husband of so long ago has made an amends for his bad treatment of me. We are now friends and share a son together. (now grown). This rarely happens, but he apologized years ago and tried to make it up the best he could, this was after he joined AA. But he's still very controlling and manipulative and unable to stay in a lasting, normal relationship without slipping into his former tendencies. I can truly say that if I needed anything, and if he had the means to help me, he would. But he cannot be in a normal relationship, he's too damaged. Realized years later, he's bipolar and anti-social personality. - 4 weeks ago

Febriedethan, Very wise insight on anger! One should always seek to obtain self control. Suppressing anger is unhealthy as well, it only turns to resentment and only makes one bitter. Which often leads to depression.

It is so much better to learn how to express anger in a positive manner this way as you say "anger can be a friend" The Word of God says; "To Be angry and sin not..."

There are times when it is necesarry to express anger. There are always those who will try to take advantage of you. It is important to be able to stand up for yourself honorably. Thank you for sharing, Blessings!

It is a hard thing to live with an angry person. So good that your son, wasn't raised around that:) Really overwhelming when you understand how many people either need help to overcome this problem, or they need help in dealing with a person, who has this problem. What ever our situation is does appear that "People need People!" (We need them to relate to, or to give or receive help.)

Patty Inglish, thank you for nice support, out of control anger is not good for our health. Have a great day!

DeBorrah, I agree with you, expressing anger in a proper and healthy way is good for us. Even Jesus had been angry once but He was not controlled by anger. Thank you for nice comment. God Bless You :)

heart4theworld,

Yes, it must be hard to live with an angry person, the key is self-control. Thank you for your nice comment. God Bless You :)

Some people (including me) become more emotional when hungry. So, another tip which works for me, I'll have some food to ease my temper.

The really sad thing is though that so many people who truly do have serious anger issues either don't realize it or won't admit to it, so getting them to face the fact that they do have a problem is often the hardest part.

Hi Agus, yes it's so true..I become more emotional too when I'm hungry ha..ha, we need to stabilize the blood sugar level first, so fried chicken, rice, lalaban, and sambal are nice to calm down our temper. Thank you for commenting :)

Nemingha, it is true. Do you think it's important to set a CCTV on the angry person living room or house and show the records to them when they're angry ? I think, when they saw their own recording, they could learn something.

Have a nice day!
