Strayer University: A Fantastic Online School

Updated on September 4, 2010

For anyone considering pursuing a degree online, Strayer University is definitely worth looking into. As a student there myself, I strongly recommend it. Strayer University is an accredited school and offers a wide range of programs. They offer diplomas, Associate degrees, Bachelor degrees and Master’s degrees in addition to undergraduate and graduate certificates. Areas of study include Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, and Information Systems. Students can choose to earn their entire degree online or they can also attend on-campus classes if there is a campus near them.

At Strayer University, students are empowered to do a wide variety of things online. Not only can you earn your entire degree without ever stepping foot in a classroom, but you can also register for classes, apply for financial aid, and research careers on their website. Having personally taken online classes at several different schools, I can say that Strayer has been the most organized and the easiest to follow. The staff has also always been extremely friendly and helpful. Most students entering college for the first time don’t have a clue where to start. Strayer University always has people readily available to help students choose which degree is right for them, which classes to take, and how to pay for school.

Probably the thing I like the most about Strayer is the consistency of all the classes. At other online schools I have attended, every class was so different. Different classes would even be taught on different web-based platforms such as Blackboard or Moodle. Because the design of every class is so different, it can be very hard to figure out where your assignments are posted and when things are due. One teacher might have assignments due on Wednesdays and another teacher would have assignments due on Sundays and some teachers would change the due dates every week.

At Strayer University, every online class is taught on the same platform and they all have identical layouts. Once you take your first class and learn where everything is located at and how the class works, you can rest assured that the next class will be set up the same way. Another great thing about Strayer is that all of the classes run on the same schedule with Sunday as the due date for homework. If you are taking 3 or 4 classes, and all the teachers have different due dates, it can really be a lot to keep up with. The classes usually run on a pretty similar curriculum too. Every week each class will have a discussion board and a quiz. Every class has midterms and final exams on the same weeks and every class has a writing assignment due around the 7th or 8th week. You may see slight changes in curriculum between classes but for the most part they stay the same.

Online classes make getting a degree easy no matter what your schedule is.

Another great thing about Strayer is how easy they make it to pay for college. For example, my employer offers a tuition reimbursement program where they pay for my tuition once I submit my grades and show them that I have passed the class. Rather than having to come up with the money and then get it back at the end of the semester, Strayer defers my tuition so I can just pay it when my employer cuts me a check. Buying textbooks is also made easy with Strayer University because you can add the costs of your textbooks right on to your tuition bill instead of paying for them separately each semester.

Strayer University fits your life. Their online classes can work with almost anyone’s schedule. A lot of online schools require you to come into the school for tests and exams when taking online classes. At Strayer, everything is online. You will take all of your quizzes, tests, midterms, and final exams online with an open book and open notes. Don’t think this means you don’t have to study and work hard. You will, but with much more flexibility.
