Subconscious thoughts or Conscious thoughts? That is the question.

Updated on February 18, 2023

Using your mind

This hub began when answering a question posted by Pagelift about whether we are aware of our subconscious thoughts. I answered the question saying that if we are aware of the thought then surely it is no longer a "subconscious" thought but then becomes a "conscious" thought instead. When Pagelift replied to my comment disagreeing with my theory I decided to delve further into the subject and create a hub.

So I suppose the first thing to look at is the difference between the Subconscious and the Conscious mind.

So in simple terms the Conscious Mind deals with the logical stuff we think about and the reasoning we use to work things out.

In contrast to that the Subconscious Mind deals with involuntary actions such as emotions and stores our memories.

Below is a video explaining the process between our conscious and subconscious mind.

Thought Process

So where do the two minds overlap and work as one?

This all comes down to the thought process and how we take ideas and images into the brain, process the information and store for later use. However various branches of the scientific world have various theories as to how the thought process works.

As I looked into how to explain the process of thought it became clear that this subject has a multitude of possible answers as various different branches of education saw the thought process in different ways.

A whole host of subjects including Philosophy, Biology, Psychology, Sociology, and Psychoanalysis to name just a few each had their own interpretations about the thought processes within the mind.

Communication Process

Communication Fuels the Thought Process

To complicate things further it then occurred to me that in order to think something we are then subjected to some form of Communication.

So in order to fuel our Thought Process we must be a part of some form of Communication Process

Conclusion

I concluded after much research and thought that the subconscious and conscious minds cannot be separated as two parts; they are deeply interconnected throughout the communications and thought process in such a way that they compliment each other in order to work as one.

Through learning new things we can train the subconscious memory which in turn trains our conscious reactions to outside stimuli but without the two sections of the mind working together we would not cope within society. We would either be all action without thinking through the consequences or all imagination without acting upon it.
