THREE WAYS THAT I HAVE USED GARLIC AS A NATURAL CURE

What is garlic

As you all know I don't like to do research, but every now and then, a little research is needed.  So, I went to Wikipedia as usual, to get the meaning of garlic, and it follows. Allium sativum, commonly known as garlic, is a species in the onion family Alliaceae.  Its close relatives include the onion, shallot, leek, and chive. Garlic has been used throughout recorded history for both culinary and medicinal purposes. Interesting!

I'm not going to go into all of the medicinal qualities and properties, of garlic, because that's been done to death. I'm simply going to tell you how I used garlic to cure three problems in my family.

Garlic and ear infection

Let me preface this by saying I am not recommending any of these methods, just stating what I have done and how it worked for me.

I have two children that had recurring ear infections. For the first one that had the infection, after repeatedly frequenting the doctors office, I began to look for a natural cure. This is what I found and used. After first determining that it was truly an ear infection, I began my new found cure. I would warm olive oil in a spoon over an open flame, then dip a cotton ball in the cooled oil, (after determining that it was sufficiently cool, by squeezing a few drops on the inside of my fore arm), I would then squeeze a few drops in the ear. I would take a piece of raw garlic, large enough not to fit into the ear canal, place it in the ear, then cover that with a cotton ball, and tape it in place with surgical tape. Most times, all it took was one night, but other times a second night was needed. That remedy worked for both children so well that I stopped taking them to the doctor for simple ear infections. The trick was determining what was a simple ear infection, thankfully using my "mother wit," I always knew the difference.

Garlic and tonsillitis

Throughout my young life I was plagued with tonsillitis. I can't begin to tell you all of the antibiotics that I ingested during those years. At least twice a year, year after year I was in the doctors office. Then one year I was reading one of my natural cures books, (don't remember which one). I ran across this suggestion. Garlic enemas, yuk, yeah I know, my reaction too. However I bit the bullet and tried it. It took two nights, for my last two episodes, to be completely free of that dreaded malady. So for the last, I'd say about 35 years, I have not been visited with that particular ailment.

Garlic and my tooth infection

This is one that I found, quite by accident, about two weeks ago.  Over a month ago, I developed a killer tooth infection, it took me about two weeks to finally go to the dentist...............I know, I'm like that........anyway, the dentist gave me two types of antibiotics, and neither worked. I was about to go back again, and one night after being in agony, I had an ah ha moment. I peeled and cut open a clove of garlic, and place each piece on each of the infected areas. Oh, did I say, that because I let it go so long, it had migrated from one side of my mouth to the other. Anyway, after about three hours, I could feel the difference. Every night before bedtime I'd insert the garlic. (I only used the remedy at night, so as not to offend anyone). It took three days to clear up the infection.  To aid in the cure I used peroxide as a mouth rinse.  Also, every morning I used a serious dose of mouthwash after brushing my teeth to get rid of the garlic odor.

Again, I'd like to add, that I am not recommending these remedies, just stating that they worked for me.

Great garlic hub, fastfreta! I haven't tried the tooth thing but a few drops of garlic juice in warm oil in the ear and a couple of garlic cloves under the pillow so the 'flu doesn't 'fly' around were the order of the day! Today, I chop up a clove of garlic each for my dogs and add it to their food - keeps the tics and fleas at bay. What a wonder food to be sure!

How true, I use garlic cloves microwaved till they are hot and soft and then chewed for colds, sore throats, and even blood pressure issues, your pressure actually drops depending on your physiology and how acute your levels are.

Of course I do avoid close conversations and kisses, but you would anyhow if you had a cold, sore throat, or high blood pressure not of a romantic nature...lol...great hub.~~~MFB III

Very very useful. I'm going to have to book mark this one. I have used garlic oil for my girls ears when they had ear infections. And every so often I'll put some in their ear to combat it. I've also heard chewing on garlic is a great way to ward off mosquitos. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to this year. I will try these other remedies as well.

Good hub Freta. I love garlic, but use it only in food. The smell is too strong for me to use it any other way.

Garlic is the best! All we ever need to prevent poor health and to heal is right there in nature.

I remember the Delaney Sisters who were over 100 - they said when they were in their 60's they started doing yoga every day and taking a garlic clove. I love it raw and when I remember or think I need an extra boost I will chop it up raw and swallow it with water. Beats any supplement.

Thanks fastfreta!

Wow..this is an excellent hub. I love garlic because of it's medicinal value. I think it even saved my life when my blood pressure skyrocketed once. I am impressed with the way you used it to cure ear infections, tonsillitis and tooth infections.

I have gotten into the habit of eating raw garlic in a salad prior to retiring to bed. It does help to heal many maladies. Thanks again for such an informative hub.

Eating garlic just when you begin to feel the symptoms of a cold or sore throat can end it. I like to eat a large clove before bed when I feel the slightest discomfort. If I get the cold then I have to get regular medicine but if I catch it early enough I can cut it down with garlic. It's really cool.

Its nice of you to share. Garlic has good qualities, I don't mind chewing on raw garlic - once in a while when cooking but then I'd have to chew mint for the rest of the day. (guess you know why. Lol)

Cool to hear that someone else pours through the natural cures books too. At our house we say "Books are our friends." Garlic is part of the supplement program in Dr. Ivker's "Sinus Survival" program.
