Teaching Children To Be Peacemakers
69Peace seeds take root within each heart. Nourished & Loved, Peace growth will start.
Roots dig deeper, limbs reach for the sun, Peace blossoms erupt for everyone.
The fruit of peace grows juicy & ripe. Like new moon to full in a starry night.
Peace seeds then fall to the fertile ground. The circle complete & Peace all around.
(Peace Pie Mandala Project - poem by Jennifer Star)
Children Are The Seeds of Peace
How very important it is today to have Peacemakers in our world. Blessed be the firemen that put out the flames that roar and blessed be the peacemakers in a time of endless war.
Peace starts in the home and it is the time right NOW for teaching our children to be Peacemakers. World peace is greatly dependent upon the training and education of our children. The seeds of peace begin with them.

Teach Peace
If we are going to bring about peace in the world, we have to begin with the children ~Mahatma Gandhi
You may be struck with how young and sweet some little children look on the outside but do you know what lurks on the inside? Do they hurt? Are they angry? Has a wrong worldly desire taken control of their heart and temporarily rule over their life?
And what consequences do you think our children will experience in their future if they give in to those desires?

Resolving Conflict
Peacemaking is an essential step in teaching our children to resolve conflict within themselves and amongst their friends. Most of what they learn about getting along with others and treating themselves with respect is what they see their parents do at home. Parents clearly have the primary responsibility to model and teach with an open and loving heart.
I know as a mother that this does not always come naturally. It is common to become exasperated when teaching children. We must ourselves model the language of peace before we can teach our children to be peacemakers. It requires a great deal of faith, careful instruction and diligent practice.
Conflict does not destroy relationships or send hostile armies against each other or breakup families who are bruised and hurting from the hard knocks of life.
If not conflict then what?
It is our refusal to resolve the conflict. We refuse to bend to see the other persons point of view.
So what's the fix to resolving conflict?
Negotiation and Compromise - Getting people to understand the tremendous cost when they stubbornly refuse to resolve issues is the toughest part of all.
It is easier to double up our fists and yell and scream but it takes humility to make peace.

Thank you Michelle (ripplemaker) thank you so much. I really enjoyed putting this hub together. There is so much good information that I got lost in the research, as usual. That's why it takes me so long to write, lol. I started to complicate the matter so had to revise and simplify. Keep it simple; i've got to remember that.
Thanks for the thumbs up and I'm glad you appreciated this hub!
Well you did it! Simple and yet packed with information too! LOL I learn from you many things everyday! :-)
Haha I learn so much from you too; more than you'll ever know everyday. So I thank you big time :)
What a beautiful hub. It is so important to teach the children about peace. Thank you for the wonderful links. I will use them for my kids this summer. We always have a project for them to work on when school is out. This is a wonderful addition to the Hubs across the world unite for peace. I loved it. :D
Thank you Paper Moon. I'm glad you appreciated this hub. I thought your idea of hubbing for peace was wonderful and I thank you for that. I'm glad to be a part of uniting for peace.
Enjoy the links and the summer projects with the kids. :D
The idea of teaching children to be peacemakers is a great message to pass on! My sister is going to work with children, and teach them meditation as a way of honoring her teenage son's memory, and just realized after reading your hub, that its a contribution towards peace. I love this energy, this type of hubs which Paper Moon started, its adds to the well being of the world, one way or the other.
Thumbs up!
I love your sister's idea for teaching children meditation in honor of her son, your nephew. What a fantastic way to honor and celebrate peace. Thanks Marie for stopping by and for the thumbs up.. Peace my friend!
Dottie,
What a lovely and inspiring article. I hope some teachers read and take the information into their classrooms as well as parents. We all need to remember how important a little understanding and compassion is in our daily lives. Sometimes, I think we get lost in the day-to-day and need to be reminded. Beautiful and inspirational article. Thanks, Debbie
Thank you Debbie, so true we do get lost and need to be reminded from time to time, I know I do! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
I too love what violetsun shared about teaching meditation to children as a way to teach them peace. :-) Hmmmm....all these ideas are running in my head! Thank you Dottie and Violetsun. Have a peaceful weekend.
Dottie - How wonderful. This a great hub and important too. Children are our future.
Children do what they see. If we teach them now the importance of peace maybe we'll have a less violent world in the future. This is a wonderful contribution to "Hub for Peace", thank you for sharing this and some of the tools to help the children learn the value of peace. =)
Listening to the song as I write this.... It is good to teach our children about peace... great hub
Thank you ripplemaker. You have a peaceful week! :)
Thank you Triplet Mom for stopping by. I appreciate your comments.
How true Charia. More than once my now grown children have mocked me and stopped me dead in my tracks; thinking did I just say that! lol... Thanks for stopping by. It's always nice to see you. :)
BTW Charia I just read your profile again and am now on my way to vote for you in the hubnuggets. Congrats for being a nominee! Hope you win!
Hi Brenda, I'm listening to the song again. It has a good message. I'm glad you enjoyed.
Thank you, Dottie! By becoming one of the nominees, inspire me more to do better and stay longer. =)
Yay...I hope to see you around for a long time Charia. :)
What tremendous truth are presented here - the truth of it all and the reward of our living it - peacemaking - can only bring special rewards! Thank you for the this wonderful hub, pictures, music, thoughts, sharing!
Dottie I believe that a hub like this Is so relevant In these modern times .Maybe our kids can get It right If we teach them right ! I like something Dave Mustaine said about his song " Peace Sells " To Quote : When you talk about peace everybody Is for It but no one wants to give up anything !
Thanks frogyfish for pointing out that there are special rewards for living in peace. How true to know there are many! Glad you enjoyed the hub and thanks for coming by.
Thanks tony for shedding light with the Dave Mustaine quote. It brought to mind the Lenny Kravitz song "we want peace and we want it FAST". It seems to be how many are raising their children today, we want it NOW! Like you commented "Maybe our kids can get It right If we teach them right".
If we all grow a little peace in our children, if everybody does their part, the world will definitely be a better place. The molding process may not be easy but as you say, it's very fulfilling when you sow seeds of peace in children.
Once again, nicely done.
And thanks for voting for my hubnugget :) Came in 2nd.
The molding process, like you said anglnwu is not easy, and the rewards are not instantaneous and we wonder if our kids hear us most days.
Now that my kids are older I can assure mothers the seed got planted but just lays dormant for a while and until the ripe time you will see your kids living out what you thought they didn't hear and you smile and say to yourself "so they did hear me".
Just think of all the times when your children weren't in the same room and you were speaking softly so they couldn't hear and they pop in with their thoughts on your conversation. "They hear everything, they just pretend they don't", lol.
Hey Dot,
Nice Hub and a great theory. The problem is, not all children will be taught to resolve their problems. I think it's great to do so, but it must be balanced out by also teaching them not to be victims.
There will always be bully's, whether you're a school yard kid or a Country. It's how you stand up to these bullies that will determine whether or not you become a victim.
Best to teach 'em early that it's Noble to be a peacemaker but also teach them that they don't have to be victims. Sometimes when you turn the other cheek you get clobbered in the back!
Hi SamSurvivor,
Great comment! Thanks. I think children who bully are only doing so because they have never been taught how to express their feelings or to ask for what they need in a friendly way. Sad that some will never learn.
But we can teach our children how not to be a victim by teaching them how to assert themselves effectively. Children can learn through role-playing with puppets or with each other how to express their feelings and needs in a productive way, respecting others, asking nicely and how to respond appropriately to hurtful behavior.
Children need to be taught early the rewards of standing up for themselves rather than solely seeking approval from others.
And we parents of course need to demonstrate and be good role models in our own lives where our children can see and learn firsthand.
anyone can easily learn the things when they are at their child hood and if we teach them with the lessons like this in the starting stages itself they will have their mid set tot hat which helps all..
nice one
A child is eager to learn and has great potential from birth to age 10 so it is wise to prepare them young on how to interact with their environment and with other people in a positive way which is critical to their success. I agree, swathin2, to get their mind set early to that which helps all. Thanks for that comment.
If children don't quarrel as children, they would not quarrel when they grow up either. You are right! :)
Thanks quicksand, I appreciate your comment.
Dottie This is a Fantastic Hub Thank You so much for sharing. You are so right on. Our children need to be taught peace and love not dark. Your writing is truly blessed.

Dottie1,
Great hub!
You did a wonderful job here! It is really a good idea to raise your children to be peacemakers. It really helps to instill in them good conflict resolution skills this builds their confidence and give them life long coping skills.
Thank you for sharing.
Blessings
Thanks DeBorrah for the nice compliment and thanks too for passing thru and sharing your thoughts. It was nice to meet you.:)
Hi Dottie, I suddenly remember my childhood days when this movie on tv showed people singing "all we are saying is give peace a chance" and that struck me well enough that I can still hear the song clearly today. I guess this just goes to show that if we do expose kids to the concept of peace early on then it will have a positive effect in their adult life. Thumbs up and thank you for being such a loving, tender, peace loving friend. Hugs:)
Your comment dayzeebee is a perfect example when teaching children, it might not always seem they are listening at the moment but like you say words can strike and be used for good later on in life. Thank you for the thumbs up. May you continue to bask in the fullness of peace my friend. Hugs:)
"peace seeds", how neat! How true! Lovely words here and I enjoyed the children's song too. Was interested in the date on the video too...any ulterior meaning meant there?
Hi frogyfish, sorry for long delay in response, been fighting the flu and I'm thankful it wasn't the swine. I forgot about the date on the vid, and just went back to check, hmmmmm, rather strange date to have on a peace vid, don't ya think?

Hello Angel Dottie...wow what a beautiful, wonderful topic. Delightfully my cup of tea. Gosh, I am so excited to change our school's website so I could link this up over there! :-) I so love the many ideas on how to teach kids about peace from the parents being models of peace to teaching it through music and art. Thumbs up sis!
