The Bible has more meaning today
The Bible today
I often you use the Word of God when talking with non-believers. I've seen many of them dismissed The Bible as unreliable in today’s world because it makes them think, about their lives, here and eternal and they would rather not. In the end, the word of God is the only thing that will defeat the darkness. I find myself looking at some of the rules in the bible and I find them more relevant now than they could have possibly been back when they were first written.
For Example, The Word says, "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. , but do not get drunk." Look at what happens when we break this rule: More than 17,500 people die in alcohol related car accidents.
When some women get drunk, several things can go wrong: rape, one nightstand, possible pregnancy, possible abortion, depression, suicide have all been well documented.
It has also been noted that abusive men becomes more aggressive and violent when alcohol is involved. For example the woman who received to first face transplant was, shot in the face by here husband when he was drunk. To make this matter more clear here are some stats.
Alcohol is the number one drug problem in America.
There are more than 12 million alcoholics in the U.S.
Three-fourths of all adults drink alcohol, and 6% of them are alcoholics.
Americans spend $197 million each day on alcohol.
In the United States, a person is killed in an alcohol-related car accident every 30 minutes.
A 2000 study found nearly 7 million persons age 12 to 20 that were binge drinkers.
Three-fourths of all high school seniors report being drunk at least once.
Adolescents who begin drinking before the age of 15 are four times more likely to become alcoholics than their counterparts who do not begin drinking until the age of 21.
People with a higher education are more likely to drink.
Higher income people are more likely to drink.
Let us move on to another subject Premarital Sex. If you have heard my testimony, you know I can attest for this sin myself. The Word says in 1 Corinthians 7:2 (NIV) "But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband." The consequences for breaking this rule are numerous, for example More than 80% percent of teen pregnancies occur out of marriage, and about 50% of all teen pregnancies end in abortion or intentionally miscarried(drinking, drugs, pills, etc.) There are 1.3 million abortions are performed each year. (Source: Finer LB and Henshaw SK, Estimates of U.S. Abortion Incidence in 2001 and 2002, Alan Guttmacher Institute, 2005). In fact, since 1973 In the United States alone, the number is 42,000,000+, that is 42 MILLION BABIES KILLED! For those women who keep their babies, about 60% drop out of school, more than 70% don't stay with father of the child, and marriage is less likely and typically the teen mothers are 6 six times more likely to has postpartum depression which may lead neglect of the child, drug and alcohol problems, depression and more sexual partners, which leads to more unplanned, unwanted and unloved children whom will suffer due to the lack of a father in its life, and blaming him/herself the problems in the household and may lead to depressed, overweight ,and unstable children which are more likely to fall into their parents foot steps. It’s a vicious circle passed down through each generation all caused by sin.
We are now seeing a strange trend with some women who have children young to deadbeat dads they try to find love and comfort from anyone even someone of their own gender. Not because they are gay and/or love the woman, but they need someone to love them and the man in their life hurt them so bad, that they will take anything they can get. When asked over 91% said they wish they had waited. Pregnancy and unplanned children are not the only consequence.
The STD rate has double in the past 5 years according to recent stats.
More than half of all people will have an STD/STI at some point in their lifetime.
The estimated total number of people living in the US with a viral STD/STI is over 65 million. Every year, there are at least 19 million new cases of STDs/STIs, some of which are curable.
More than $8 billion is spent each year to diagnose and treat STDs/STIs and their complications. This figure does not include HIV.
In a national survey of US physicians, less than one-third routinely screened patients for STDs/STIs.
Less than half of adults ages 18 to 44 have ever been tested for an STD/STI other than HIV/AIDS. Each year, one in four teens contracts an STD/STI.
One in two sexually active persons will contact an STD/STI by age 25.
About half of all new STDs/STIs in 2000 occurred among youth ages 15 to 24.
The total estimated costs of these nine million new cases of these STDs/STIs was $6.5 billion, with HIV and human papillomavirus (HPV) accounting for 90% of the total burden.
Of the STDs/STIs that are diagnosed, only some (gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, hepatitis A and B) are required to be reported to state health departments and the CDC.One out of 20 people in the United States will be infected with hepatitis B (HBV) some time during their lives.
Hepatitis B is 100 times more infectious than HIV.
It is not just teen who get STDs. Spouses who cheat on their husband/wife have a 50/50 chance of either getting an STD or getting caught. "Thou shall not covet thy neighbors’ wife," "Thou shall not look upon a woman with lust, for he has committed adultery in his heart." Those are just a few examples of The Word of God having a major part in our lives today. Moreover, I intentionally only chose to use earthly consequences.
Sadly, “The current immoral generation--with its obsession with sex and filth. The weakening of faith will lead to further moral decline and in turn, as in a chain reaction, that will weaken faith even more. In the following gloomy picture the Apostle Paul depicts the general moral decay prior to the end of the world: "In the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power" (2 Tim 3:1-5). Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts." Hold fast Christians and Rejoice.
