The Door Latch on the LG LMA1150SV 1.1 cu. ft. Microwave Oven

Several months ago I gave my DVD player and microwave oven to a friend to repair. Up to now nothing doing. So during a recent evangelistic series a t church I decided to replace my personal DVD player just in case the missionary needed a backup. I was running late the Friday afternoon when I entered the electronics store and quickly decided that since I was using the credit card to purchase the DVD player then I might as well just get the microwave oven as well.

I purchased the only model in stock, the LG LMA1150SV Microwave oven, and it was only later that evening as we unwrapped the product that I realised that opening the door caused the entire unit to be pulled forward because of a certain stiffness in the mechanism.

There are two possible types of mechanisms to open a microwave oven: You may push a pad on the control panel and the latch would open, or you simply tug at the handle and the door would disengage from the safety door latch system and open.

No customer likes to complain or return a product so I decided that I would use it for a while to see if the fault, for it is a fault, would disappear with use.

On the plus side the LG LMA1150SV is much more powerful than the previous oven; it pops corn within a tolerable time frame, and has an EZ-ON pad which you press for extra 30 seconds cooking, just in case. The 1.1 cu. ft. midsize oven comes with a stainless steel look on the exterior and boasts 1000W of power.

The family has been using it quite often, and this is not in keeping with our health conscious approach to wellness. For we have heard a lot of the bad press on microwave ovens in general and have decided to limit our use. One would have thought that a stiff door would help in that regard. Can’t say it has.

Anyway, I happened to pass by the store last week and mentioned my concern about the door to the sales clerk. He said it was a problem of not being able to please every customer. It appears that several customers have complained about doors which opened with a key pad. Once the key pad malfunctioned it was very difficult to source and repair, so they have decided to sell doors with handles. And now I was complaining about the entire oven being pulled forward because of stiffness of latch when I tug at the handle.
