The Habitat of the RARE Arroyo Toad In California: A Photo Study
This toad lives in quiet, lush creek areas..
An Endangered species..
The rare Arroyo Toad is a recognized endangered species. It has been officially recognized in several spots in California, one of which is shown here in photos. To access this area take Highway 38 and drive towards Forest Falls, California. It is on the right of the highway going up, in an area designated as "Picnic Area." There is plenty of parking. You will need a Forest Adventure Pass.
Although I did not see the toad the day I took these photos, it was an excellent little hike. If you have read my Hub on Loch Leven, this area is not far from there. Hikers have to be careful to not disturb the habitat and always stay on trails. I would recommend this hike to anyone who lives in Southern California (or is visiting). Children love this area and enjoy the picnic grounds and trails as well as the adults.
