The Homeless Of Our City. What Have We Done Lately?

I know that we can't solve every one's problems in a matter of a day, and that we can only change things for those that want change, but as I drive my city streets here in Big H-Town(Houston TX) I have seem to notice so many people under our bridges, street corners, store fronts, sidewalks asleep.I've drove to our down town area and could see tent campers kinda tucked away in the bush. And the question is "What have I done lately as my part to bring change to what I see.
What is our city leaders doing to make change for the homeless of our city. I have never seen are heard them mentioned the homeless from their high ivory offices. When our city leaders are running for what ever office they want they don't mention the homeless. So my question to the cities leaders is how can we go forward with our brothers and sisters sleeping on the streets?
Some are vets that at some time or another fought for you and me in wars, that we could not have fought ourselves. We as one can do something, but we as a people together can do all -things.
Watching our nation throwing away money on high dollar companies, and the city streets are littered with our fellow man and women without homes. The banks holding homes hostage of foreclosures. They wont let the homeless use them as shelters, and they wont sell them. Our city has an overflow of vacant buildings. But our city leaders go to church every Sunday and say they are their brothers keeper. (I think not.)
Giving to shelters or great but what about more shelters, more beds. Our city needs a wake up call. And a call to repentance for being( I think )thoughtless and selfish. Not to think of the other countries we send care to with no hesitation
People make a city, It's not a city make a city. Remember the people on the street was once our neighbor.
Taking a look at all this says to me if we fall, how far do you have to fall before someone (good Samaritan) see you and pick you up? From this view what my eyes have seen is a very low fall.
When will we reevaluate our actions? Our cities go from one year to the next doing the same things. It is time for a change.
A City Cry
My brother sleeps on the ground through out my city streets
becoming a shadow of the life we live today
You can look into his eyes and they will say,I was once in this
place where you stay
I fell one day
I have no shelter to house me
I can hear the footsteps of the next man
as he rumbles by
I'm safe on the ground where I lay
no fear of falling
You see I've been in the place where you stay.
