Should Bush Be Impeached?

Many people think that President Bush should be impeached

35 Articles Of Impeachment Against President Bush

Could it actually happen this late in the day? Could the impeachment of George W. Bush actually become a reality? According to Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who stood before a house senate committee on June 9th and read articles for the impeachment of President Bush, it could and should happen - and the sooner the better.

I won't pretend to be some high and mighty political writer, because I'm not - I'm just an average citizen that happens to have some writing chops. I have got to say though that this impeachment process is quite intriguing to me- Could this actually happen this late in the day? Would this actually happen right before our next presidential election?

According to the latest MSNBC's poll - it should happen, and if the voice of the people is any indication that this might might happen - we may very well be in the process of impeaching our current President.

So What Are The Charges?

There were 35 articles of impeachment leveled against the President- some of the charges include:

1. Failing to provide troops with vehicle armor

2. Condoning torture

3. Illegally detaining both foreign nationals and Americans

4. Mishandling the governments response to Hurricane Katrina

5. Undermining efforts to address Global Warming

And probably the most serious allegation of all- charges that President Bush manufactured a false case against Iraq in order to pull the United States into War ( remember those supposed weapons of mass destruction that were never found?)

So What Happens Next?

The next step is for the House to refer the articles to the House Judiciary Committee. The Judiciary Committee will then determine -- by majority vote -- whether the grounds for impeachment exist. An objective review of the articles would undoubtedly demonstrate that many, if not most, of the articles prepared by Rep. Kucinich are backed up by sufficient grounds to proceed with the impeachment process.

(Some think this will only lead to a mass dragging of feet and red tape that may not result in anything happening before the election- I guess only time will tell on this)

Latest Poll by MSNBC

89% of the people in this poll feel that the things President Bush has done justify impeachment
89% of the people in this poll feel that the things President Bush has done justify impeachment

89% of Americans Say IMPEACH

According to a poll by MSNBC, a stunning 89% of the people said that President Bush's actions justify impeachment- that the secret spying and deceptions leading to war are enough evidence to justify putting George W. Bush on trial. (This a poll of over 687,914 people to date)

I think the mainstream media needs to be paying attention to the voice of the people, don't you?

Don't you find it rather odd that you aren't hearing much about this? If we look back just a few years into history there was certainly ALOT of news attention about Bill Clinton's infidelity............ and the following impeachment charges for his lying about it.......... every TV channel you turned had it on- every newspaper you picked up had headlines screaming IMPEACHMENT..... CIGARS.......MONICA......

Isn't it rather odd that more MORE attention was given to that situation than this- where there are actual SERIOUS crimes being leveled against the President of the United States?

Where is the Mainstream Media?

Yes, believe it or not, a president can still be impeached even after he leaves office. The consequences of that would be that he would be stripped of his government pension (a small deal, admittedly, when you consider the bucks boy george has got).

He would also be eternally disgraced, which would be a much more significant penalty.

Sadly, the likelihood of this happening would be slim to none at this point. If the Democrats had wanted to make a case against Bush, they would have done it by now. I'm afraid Bush will escape unscathed.

The congress of the United States will attempt to impeach every President from now on. It started with Slick Willy and now Mr. Bush. As long as we have a two party system where lifetime politicians care more about power than the country, partisan politics will continue to practice hate, the future of every President in the same. Term limits for all elected officials is the only way to return our government to the people, for the people. So go ahead and impeach Bush so we can get on the impeachment of Barack, then whoever is after him.

President Bush's mismanagement of our country is not only his fault. You have to look at his cabinet, actually, all those jerks in Congress, our governors, local politicians and the American People. We do so little with so much and we expect so much to change without much effort. I'm definitely included in my allegations but I feel we let GWB get away with it. That's why the economy is jacked, thats why our schools are jacked and that's why we are in dispair. Hasn't anyone watched the movie "Network": First, you have to get mad and say, I'm a humanbeing G*&dammit. . . then go to your window and scream, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this any more. Our vote is captured by the action of the people, not some web vote by MSNBC. I hope we all do our next president justice by putting our feet and hands into the community and, as the honorable Mahatma Ghandi said "be the change we wish to see".

Hi Dorsi Great Hub.

It looks like Bush started his presidency with controversy and its going to end it the same way. But as the wheels grind slowly I doubt this will happen before your new president takes office. Looking at the charges one cannot help but ask why was this impeachment process not started a long time ago?

Dorsi -- a great and informative hub,  what a sad day in our country tho...because impeachment -- never strengthens ...however....I think he deserves it.  Time will tell and we should follow it carefully. i both want him accountable and dread it at the same time...what will be the fall out? very serious and scarey stuff

Such an informative, well stated piece of writing here...in my harshest moments of disgust for Bush (when I learn of a soldier's death or lifelong paralysis, etc.), I feel like Oberbreckling in the first comment. In my pensive moments I feel like marisue...but in every moment I have felt so sad for the USA the moment he took office for his second term. And, now, terrible war's economic consequences are bashing the nation's poorest and doing a good job of slugging the middle class painfully as well.

It's bad enough that the right wingers still refuse to acknowledge the high crimes and misdemeanors committed by George W. Bush and endorsed by Republicans in general, but the failure of the loyal opposition, the Democratic leadership, to take decisive action against such behavior is catastrophic. Where is the indignation of the American people? Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, as well as nearly all the top Democrats in the House and Senate, are gutless. Even if the Democrats, and honorable Republicans, all of a sudden developed a backbone, President Bush would still serve out his term -- the process is just too complicated and too slow. And John McCain would offer us four more years of this. If President Bush were an honorable man, he would simply resign. Thanks, Dorsi, for shedding light on this sad situation.

Absolutely IMPEACh the SON OF A BITCH.

We need him gone BEFORE he drives the cost of gasoline to $10/gal. I'm convinced he made a deal with the ARABS to allow the price of gas to go over $4.00 per Gal. In return they pay him a royalty into a SWISS BANK ACCOUNT, that he'll never have to reveal OR they'll buy him a SMALL RANCH in SOUTH AMERICA under someone else's name so that he can never be traced to it. BUSH has SOLD US OUT.

IS IT TIME TO ABOLISH the REPUBLICAN PARTY? I think so, and all my reasoning is found at: www.realdemocracyinamerica.com

PaulieWalnuts - a lot of us were complaining, but sadly complaining gets you nowhere. As much as I would love to see Bush impeached, I just don't see it happening. President Obama will have much more important fish to fry when he takes office than to waste his time trying to make an example out of Bush. History will judge him as one of the worst (if not THE worst) President whether he is impeached or not.

My only hope is that Bush has screwed up so badly that any future Bush candidacies (note JEB) would be doomed from the outset.

Yesterday I watched an interview with a high ranking retired army officer who participated in a government meeting right after Sept. 11. The purpose of the meeting was to identify support for mideast terrorists. He said they put the country (or group or person) on one side and the type of support (money, troops, etc.) on the other, about 35 listings. Iraq wasn't even on the list. He traced the policies and influence of Chaney and Rumsfeld from the Nixon-Reagan-Bush-Bush years, saying that the problem was that now they were with out adult supervision under the younger Bush, and ,so, running amuck. They pushed us into the Iraq war with no plan for what to do after the initial fighting with lies, even getting "intelligence" from a convicted fellon. Bush was so lazy and disinterested in foreign politics that he parroted the lies. Impeach him and put Chaney and Rumsfeld in jail, I say. Take back our government. Take back the press from the extreem right-wing. Take back our morality from the Social Darwinists of Capitalism. Join your union. Participate in local government. Learn how to talk to people you disagree with and find the basic humanity in all. Run for office. I'll get off my soap box now. Thanks for this topic.

Now perhaps some people are beginning to see the real serious things that are going on, and whether we impeach Bush or not before the next election this is what DEMOCRACY is supposed to be about- being able to discuss these sorts of things, and having freedom of speech to do so. Thanks everyone that has come by, read and made comments.

I like to keep things out in the open where all can participate, and since I never was a believer in super-duper-secret-communications between select individuals I'll answer in public some charges/questions that were laid upon me by one of our participants here.

Sprinkler Man says:

Who exactly do you think you are?You come across as some freaking idiot that is ill informed. After reading your Bio as one Christian to another, what exactly is your problem on what I stated on martial law? Are you saying that there are millions of ignorant Americans or do you have better info than millions of others?Just so you know, I too support the IFCJ and I am glad that you do to. We have more in common than you would imagine.I guess one different belief can change your entire outlook. I am sure you are a democrat so I will not bore you with why McCain will win.Take care,

Jack Responds:

Actually...yes, there are millions upon millions of "ignorant" Americans. I have no problem so stating that for the record. And that I have better information. I work hard at keeping informed and I don’t let my emotions do my thinking for me.

And I'd take a little closer look in that mirror before I'd call anyone "ill informed" eh.

Sprinkler Man, I said the exact same thing long ago. In fact my reaction to the re-election of George Bush in 2004 was "Here comes World War III." However, I now believe that the Democratic victories in the House and Senate in 2006 put a damper on Bush's plan to invade Iran and declare marshal law. It's still possible that Dubya is wreckless enough to proceed with his earlier plans, but I think it's a little less likely because such action coming close to the 2008 elections would elicit a tremendous response from Congress -- and, I believe, from the military itself. We need to discuss this issue openly without the personal vitriol. Anyone interested in this topic should re-read President Eisenhower's Farewell Address, which virtually predicted this would happen.

Does anyone here understand what the dems are up to? Better yet, do any of you care?

France, England, even Clinton, the UN, and probably God all believed Saddam had WMD. Why? Because Saddam himself wanted the world to believe it.

Did anybody notice which party wanted to cut the war funding?

Has anybody noticed that we haven't been attacked since 9-11? Gee I wonder why that is?

Funny how this is happening just before the election, at a time when Obama is trying like crazy to paint McCain with the same colors as Bush. Is it just me or does all of this sound just a little bit phony?

William F. Torpey profile image

William F. Torpey  says:

I knew Saddam didn't WMD, FoursX2, and so did the inspectors. Nobody thought Saddam had a nuclear bomb, but that didn't keep the Bush-Cheney people from saying we had to be worried about a "mushroom cloud." War funding should be cut off because we shouldn't be fighting in Iraq at all -- there were no terrorists there until Bush invaded unnecessarily and illegally. The 9-11 attack was planned for years, and the terrorists do not have the capacity to attack us again or they would have already. You don't have to paint McCain as another Bush, he is one. Forgive me Dorsi, but I couldn't let this one go uncontested.

Bush's powers are unlimited...yes, UNlimited...as long as the U.S. is at war. Anywhere. Meaning Barbara Bush's Wayward Son DOES have the power to declare martial law AND cancel the election in November if he decides to do so...and there's not a thing any of us could do about it.

If this sounds like Hitler's Germany, it IS.

This is what we get for not taking our voting rights seriously back in 2000...for too many people voting for "the candidate they'd most like to have a beer with" (Bush) instead of the "boring" but infinitely more qualified candidate (Gore).

Personally I prefer a prez who doesn't drink at all, thank you very much. And we don't actually have to LIKE the person, only consider 'Does this person have the qualifications and experience to hold this office?".

Bush certainly didn't. He FAILED at every business he was ever involved in, and was a horrible governor.

But by golly, he'd make a great beer bud. Alright!

Well, electing a president is NOT a popularity contest. It's the method by which We The People choose the Leader of The Free World. Sadly, if "Decider" Bush doesn't cancel the election, we'll be picking yet another president on like-ablity, not qualifications and experience.
