Chapter Two

Lisa was really excited about the party. She was going to be getting a chance to see a lot of family members that she had not seen in years. The family managed to plan a family reunion around the celebration of the birth of her child. Some of the people coming had not even had a chance to meet her little TJ. Not just her family but Tim's family as well had agreed to the gathering this summer. It would be the largest party Lisa had ever hosted and she wanted everything to be perfect. Life could not be more exciting for a young woman as it was this spring for Lisa Welker.

TJ, they called him TJ because Tim did not want his son to be known as Jr. or little Tim nor himself as big Tim. T.J. was a gift from god to the couple who had been trying to conceive for many years before the birth of the young Welker. The couple had planned to have several children by now the tenth year of marriage. Tim and Lisa had been high school sweethearts up to and almost through Lisa's going away to college. During her college years they had agreed to see other people and if they still felt the same after Lisa's graduation they knew that it was a real Love. Tim proposed only six months after Lisa returned home and they were married within the year. Lisa had wanted to be a pediatrician all her life and was still taking classes towards her degree. Everything was perfect Lisa stayed home with T.J. and took care of all the household chores. In the evening when Tim got home from work he would spend the evenings with his son while Lisa attended classes or studied. Everything was perfect, Lisa was content every morning to start her day.

This morning was no different, Peggy was going to pick her and T.J. up this afternoon to go to the local mall. Peggy was Lisa's best friend, she was also married to Tim's boss Bill who although older than her had provided Peggy with everything she could possibly desire. Lisa and Peggy grew up next door to each other, Tim lived just a few blocks away and Bill lived across town. Bill was older than them by about eight years and was the rebellious teenager cruising around in his Chevy while Tim, Lisa and Peggy were still playing in the playground. Even back then though Peggy always had a crush on Bill, although at the time it did not seem that Bill even knew of Peggy's existence. Bill's best friend was Tim's older brother Thomas who unfortunately fell asleep at the wheel when he was eighteen and his car wandered into the path of oncoming traffic ending Tommy's young life prematurely.

Bill had always looked at Tim as sort of an adopted young brother helping him out whenever he could. He even hired Tim after he graduated to work at the boat yard with him. They became the best of friends over the years especially since their wives were closer than most sisters. Bill had even cosigned for the mortgage for the young couple to purchase their condo. Everything was great between the friends they enjoyed bar-b ques together they played cards together they even vacationed together.

When Lisa had finished the laundry she got T.J. dressed and gave Peggy a call. Peggy would be here in a half an hour and Lisa was anxious to get out of the house. They were going to leave some deposits on some of the stuff that was going to be needed for T.J.'s birthday party. They had to see the caterer, among other things she needed chairs and tables and the caterer was going to hire a clown also to entertain the children. Lisa had her debit card ready to go when Peggy pulled up.

"Good Afternoon Hun how are you doing?" Peggy said as if to one in mourning.

"I'm fine Peg why do you ask like that?" said Lisa "Is everything OK?"

"It will be OK Lisa we will figure something out." Peggy said somewhat compassionately.

"Figure out what? What are you talking about Peggy you are giving me the Jeebees?" Lisa said smiling

"Didn't Tim call you?" Peggy asked

"Call me for what? Peggy what is going on?" said Lisa

"Mommy whats wrong? " said T.J. tugging at his moms blouse.

"Come on Pumpkin jump into the back." Lisa said to T.J. while glancing at Peggy who was gazing into the distance.

Lisa climbed into the front of the Jeep and buckled up. She then turned to Peggy and said "So now spill it what is going on please Peggy tell me?"

"The boatyard is closing." she said "Bill called me a couple of hours ago so I just figured Tim had probably called you."

"Closing you mean forever? You mean Tim is out of work?" Lisa said in a very panicky way.

"Yeah Hun, forever they are moving to Costa Rica" Peggy said "They still got a few weeks to work and the company is going to give them a thirty day severance pay. Of course they will be eligible for unemployment benefits in a few weeks."

"Unemployment benefits, Peggy we are just making ends meet now." Lisa said the tears welling up in her eyes." Peggy !! What are we going to do?"
